Despite the closure of SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive, Sony has said the tactical shooter franchise isn't dead.
Sony's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has assured fans that they never retire any franchise as the company, quite evidently, likes to ressurect franchises.
"It’s not done. We never definitely retire any franchise. It’s sometimes great to have a fresh look at the classics that we have.
"We are launching a new Sly Cooper game this year after so many years. Never say never. I feel sorry for people who are longtime SOCOM fans, and there are many people who still play SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2, especially those seem to be their favorites."
SOCOM 4 wasn't exactly the best installment released in the IP, but, if Yoshida's words are anything to go by, Sony could indeed release a SOCOM HD collection containing the first three iterations.
