Hotspots/Online/WiFi Discussion Thread

It is like when you are just playing on a wireless lan. You are playing a game, or you could just be in Pictochat, and the DS should "come alive" and the person from IGN said. I think that he meant you get an alert or a sign that someone is in range.

When you enter a hotspot, I guess that the same thing will happen.

I can't imagine how hotspots would be too common, and I live in LA, one of the most crowded cities in the US..

Well, I guess if you have a sibling that's playing in your HOUSE, but other than that... =\

Regardless of how much the world is involved with technology, it's just a LAN. Whenever I play halo online, and I go to the LAN section, do I ever see my next door neighbors on? No, it's not common to find someone on the same LAN as you.

let me help explain how the wireless functions work, so everyone has a good understanding. one part would be, like discussed earlier, the wireless LAN. that works just about anywhere, where you can be up to 100 ft from someone and play with the people in that range. now the other part would be using the DS with hotspots. hotspots are wireless broadband internet connections. if you're in range of a hotspot, it will connect you to the internet so you can chat and play with people all over the world. most likely, the games on the DS will have a lobby screen like most online games do, so you can search for friends and such. hotspots are springing up all around the world these days. places you're most likely to encounter them are coffee shops like Starbucks, bookstores like Border's, and internet cafes. its great that nintendo is finally doing online like the fans wanted. we'll finally be playing games like mario kart, advance wars, and pokemon online with thousands of other players.

Ok, now I wonder where in my city are the hotspots... Nintendo should make a general list of all the places everywhere in the whole wide world!

i think there's a hotspot in a mall of my city... but i'm too lazy to go walking to it... i could go there like once a week.

BTW what does WAP mean? mobile phones use it, and i think ( i dont really know much about it...)you can connect almost everywhere..
