re: General Dicussion Ver. 1: Off the Record

well, before this game, the only other RPG i ever played was Super Mario RPG, and LOTR: The Return of the King.

So i have to say that Oblivion definately pwns.

Oblivion has broadened my horrizon though, im checking out other RPG's now. I just bought Morrowind, BloodMoon, and Tribunal in a collector set for $20. Sweet deal, huh?

I havent installed it yet, im gonna finish Oblivion first. I just hope that Oblivion isnt gonna make Morrowind seem like crap.

re: General Dicussion Ver. 1: Off the Record

if you play Oblivion first then Morrowind will seem very different...graphics wise it won't be good and a few features from oblivion won't be in there

the gameplay however is great and some parts you will wish they put in oblivion

as for me, nothing can compare to Morrowind, I haven't played Oblivion so I can't say but if it is anything like Morrowind, which it is then nothing will compare to that either

I will be looking forward to Fable 2 though...Fable 1 and 1.5 were good but way too short and that just made me want to play Morrowind more...and the fact there are so many mods for Morrowind helps alot

I am not a fan of the D&D style RPGs and certainly not a fan of the FF series...Guild Wars not played and the only other RPG I play is text based and online

and any other game I will have to wait until I get a job

If you've got the body for it, I'll talk to my manager at Chippendale's and maybe we can work something out.

at this moment in time, anything

unfortunately my qualifications are in the IT department yet due to no experience I can't get a job anywhere or with anything to do with IT

my first ever job I got was off a modern apprenticeship repairing mobile phones, 10 months later and I was sacked for injuring my left knee, nothing could be done about it except suffer for the last 7 months of no job

so now my search has broadened to IT, Warehouse and Admin jobs with the odd search for the usual jobs of glass collecting in pubs and such

I will get a job eventually...just when is the problem, after all I have found out the hard way that without money, you're a sitting duck literally and can't do anything

You haven't, yet you mod the forum for it. Ok... seems a bit odd, but whatever.

I hated Morrowind. The combat system just totally bugged the crap outta me. I also hated the storyline, it didn't make any sense what-so-ever to me. Im glad they changed Oblivion around. It's way better now, IN MY OPINION

Good luck with the job search, Shadow.

re: General Dicussion Ver. 1: Off the Record

Morrowind's my favorite RPG. Next up comes Oblivion, then Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. I played FF7 too, and the story is legendary, but the game itself sucks. My favorite MMO is Guild Wars (I'd probably say WoW if I tried it, but I'm never going to in interests of keeping a social life).

The combat system's the same as Oblivion.

In a nutshell, the land falls into turmoil and you are the mythic savior. If you actually play it through, the story is WAY better than Oblivion's.

re: General Dicussion Ver. 1: Off the Record

The story bored me at the begining, so I just gave up trying to do it.

And the combat is not the same - not at all. They took out the whole calculations with stats and stuff. Now, when you attack, you hit unless he's blocking or you physically do miss.

I can't see how you can say that. It's been totally redesigned. For the better for sure, though the morrowind system of hit and miss didn't bother me too much.

I've been moulded into a console rpg'er over the past years, so my best memories in RPG will be rooted there. I never got into PC's untill a couple years ago, and have been struggling with the RPG's of PC. For sure, they fit into the mould of role play, though I never found that fun in the first place. I'm sure I would also resent Final Fantasy had I grown with the likes of BG and Planescape, though I never, so I don't. Final Fantasy was my entry point into roleplaying games and it is responsible for me trying so hard to find what all the fuss is about the 'true' roleplaying games.

Morrowind and Oblivion seem to fit into the middle of the console and traditional roleplay genre, and that is probably why it can appeal to a lot, though always be a lot of niggles for both sides.

@ShadowJ: Have you considered Local Government for work? They are sailing my ship for me. The entry points usualy consist of a few training courses and a modern apprentiship place could get you experience in the role you want.

job centre have me at the moment...got a training course on June 19th which is only going to be someonetreating like I am a complete moron who can't tie his own shoe laces for two weeks while listening to them drone on about how I can make myself presentable to an employer...my problem isn't the CV, the interview or getting on with the employer, I am just let down by qualifications and experience within work

I have a chance of an apprenticeship at a large water company and I still have 6 or 7 jobs to apply for...meaning I have applied for 17 in the last 3 weeks

as for Morrowind and Oblivion, the combat system isn't the game (yes I know been said many times already) unless you download the morrowind plug-in they have designed to allow combo moves to be used (this is where the whole redesign of Oblivion's combat system came from)

if you are playing Morrowind just normally then the system is simple, stand there and slash away with the chance of hitting and missing which is dependable on your stats and skills, not to mention you had 3 attacks, chop, thrust and slash...no hard attack if you pressed the up arrow and left mouse button

i didnt like the fighting in morrowind too much either espically at the start where it was a 1:20 chance of hitting a mudcrab or somthing later on its ok though

What i did like was the larger range of skills in morrowind. its prob the only thing i like better (exept levetitation ofc) i miss my spear

re: General Dicussion Ver. 1: Off the Record

One think they did better in Oblivion is the casting system. As a sneaky bugger in Morrowind, I was always getting my ass kicked when putting my weapon away to bring out my magic hands and cast a healing spell.
The bow shooting was basically unchanged, which I liked. If you got the angle of fire against distance right it always hit.
As for the story, Oblivion has everything pretty much spelled out for you, basically Morrowind Lite. Gone are the paragraphs of text, gone are the rather extensive and quite cool background and mythical histories. I know you got all that in the book with the Collectors' Edition of Oblivion, but I liked finding that stuff out.
Gone, thankfully, are the bloody Cliff Racers.
Oh, and, once I was tough enough, I actually enjoyed having to physically walk everywhere and discovering tombs and caves I never would have gone near otherwise.

Morrowind was great, but had some very annoying flaws. Oblivion fixed virtually all of them.

The game was too easy? They made leveled monsters (a little TOO leveled for my taste, but better than it was before.

Fast travel is a BIG plus. The biggest plus.

Casting and combat is improved.

The ability to "see" caves and shrines that you are near on your compass is also a tremedous addition.'

There are more, but those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. And other than a few set tombs full of loot, there is absolutely nothing abour Morrowind that I prefer to Oblivion. To me, Morrowind seems like Bethesda's practice session for Oblivion.
