A few mod questions.

Yes I am quite new to the whole modding business...I don't know anything about it actually. So I have a few questions I hope I could get answered.

1. Let's say I download a mod that adds a village or house (something like the Helm's Deep mod). Where is it that the mod goes? Is it made into a new landmark that you can fast travel to?

2. What is one of the best sites to download mods for TESIV?

3. On average how long does a large mod, something like Kavatch rebuilt, take to complete?

4. Lastsly, are there certain sites or people that take mod requests?

Thank you.

re: A few mod questions.

For your reference, this is a quote of myself that explains how to get them to work:

quote tallteen86
You need to extract the appropriate files to the right folder. In this case, the Data folder. It should be something like this:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data

If you're using official mods, take the .bsa file, and just put it in the Data folder.

In the case of usermods, you do much the same thing, but in the case of textures and the like, when you copy that over, just say 'yes to all'. It won't overwrite the textures folder, but rather, it'll paste the file(s) inside that folder.

After that, you have to enable the content. On the launcher, there should be an option at the bottom (below 'launch Oblivion' or whatever), that says "Data" or some such. Go and check off the new content.
NOTE: Usermods are generally .esp. If you find mods that are OMOD, then you need the Oblivion Mod Manager. You can find that an The Elder Scrolls Nexus....

In many of the mods (especially the ones that do more than just tweak things), the download includes a readme file, for your reference.

About landmarks, that depends on the mod, some do, some don't...

2 - Best place, I think, would be The Elder Scrolls Nexus. Requires registration to DL files 2MB or greater. You'll also want to get WinRAR or 7zip, I think....

3 - Again, depends on what the mod offers....Some offer long quests, some just offer areas. Read the mod description, it might give you an approx. quest length....

4 - Not sure, you MIGHT be able to E-mail persons on sites that have unofficial mods....But read details about the person, see if they say whether they'll accept requests....More likely than not though, you'll find what you want in some form, if not exactly as you want. Plus, you could always make your own mod, I don't think it requires any sort of coding know-how (I could be wrong)....

re: A few mod questions.

1) If it is a quest or landmark then yes, the modder should place it on the map and I believe every mod so far does so.

2) TESnexus.com and Planet Elder Scrolls. These are the two that modders always upload too with others being backups if the first two go down.

3) Depends on the team making it and their combined knowledge. If there are a team of 4 all with knowledge of quests working on a house mod then it will take longer than a person who has knowledge of making a house mod.

Mods such as Kvatch Rebuilt and the bigger mods have a team of 10 onwards, all specifically with knowledge of part of the construction set and the game. Some may even have ovelapping knowledge

For example: My mod that is on hold at the moment combines a new house, a complete rebuild of the whodunit quest, scripts and a heck of a lot more. I know the basics but someone else who has far more superior knowledge than me could do it in a quicker time.

4) Official TES Forums if you aren't registered, then do so and start a new topic with [REQ] Title. [REQ]= Request.

Then tell them about your request, someone will pick it up if they think the idea is good enough and if they think they can pull it off.

re: A few mod questions.

Thanks Shadow. I would love to oneday see a Minas Tirith mod because I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. However I know a request such as that is asking a little much becuase it would be very hard to pull off. I think it would be sweet if at the throne atop Minas Tirith Aragorn sat with his crown and had original voices from the movies. Maybe oneday... But thanks for the advice .

re: A few mod questions.

Aragon exists and I wouldn't count out the modding community just yet

They have created some amazing work and continue to create it. Who would have thought decapitation, dual wielding, horse combat and so on and so forth were possible within Oblivion

Something from LoTR wouldn't be easy but it's not impossible

re: A few mod questions.

Oh, I didn't know Aragorn already was a mod. You see I have the game for the 360 and I have done absolouty everything you can do in the game and done it again. So that is why I am looking into getting the comptuer version so I get install mods. But like I mentioned earlier in the original post I am not the smartest guy when it comes to comptuers, mainly due becuase I don't play too many comptuer games because I don't have a very powerful system or graphics card. I was thinking about getting a GeForce 8800 GTX or something.

re: A few mod questions.

Nope, you can download and play the Official DLC's though but the ability to mod yourself is for PC only.

8800GTX is a good card, one of the best but the price a burden, the 8800 series itself has the biggest price tag (unless you get a decent pre-built deal)

However The ATI HD 3000 and 4000 are good alternatives and are what I have (currently have an ATI HD 3850 512MB butthave a 3870X2 1GB in reserve when I remember to buy a decent PSU)

You have an ATI 3850 SJ? How well does it play?

re: A few mod questions.

Have a look

3870X2:

As for gameplay, smooth although I do have QTPIII running and may need to get the reduced pack. I also need to tweak my game since I get hit with a few CTD's but that may have to do with not having a few mods installed due to using an old save from my other PC (have a horrid feeling a few saves are corrupt too )
