There is a way to run Windows XP so that programs that were designed for older versions of Windows can still run on it. I can't remember exactly how it works, though. Chip's Challenge works on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98, and possibly other versions of Windows. quote NormalPhenomenon

Chip's Challenge works on every version of Windows with virtually no modifications. It runs fine on Windows 1.0 - 98, NT, 2000, Me, all those ones that came before XP. Then on XP, it runs with the classic title bar. Vista is the only one with a real problem; it seems any game in the WEP has an issue with sound effects. You can leave bg music on, but sound effects will make the game pause a second when you step on something. But the game is easily playable without the sounds, so you should be fine.
