Theme: Revamp something from Red or Blue quote musab ahmed pathan
[C+] While this is mostly a just a recolor, I like that you have enough sense to not try and include a third color in the mane! You might have wanted to add some highlight color to the ear closest to us, and to the left (our left) paw. You might also want to re-touch up the face, the position of the highlight needs some work.
quote Lizz
*judged by mudkipz master* [A+] This sprite looks pretty good like that. You fixed that thing on it's back leg, to make it more like the present vaporeon. On the front leg though, on the R/B sprite, I don't really think that the thing coming out of the leg was the other foot, but rather another of that thing on it's back leg... :S(sorry if you don't understand, I can't really explain it. ) Anyway, the only flaw with it is that the front leg(the one that is the farthest from us) looks a little square. I know it's like that on the R/B sprite, but on R/B, it looked more round-looking. But just that tiny error won't stop it from being a great sprite! ^^ And I know what you mean. I picked a sprite that wasn't that different from the present one. Good thing they fixed it on Pokemon Yellow. =D
quote vespoidkill
[C] I'm really staring to get sick of seeing these re-colors being passed as revamps. Your main problem is that you failed to notice that while you were recoloring, you were using Golem's highlight color as the base color. The purpose of the highlight color is, as its name implies, is to highlight the areas that are most in the light. You also have loads of extra pixels around the outline.

[A-] It makes me really happy to see spriters fix the shading on their re-vamps, although, I don't understand why you added something to the ear-wing thing on it's head, the shape of that was fine as-is. Other than that, I would have liked to see the white as well as the highlight color rounded a bit better on the belly.
quote Mewtwo55
[C-] How many times am I going to see people just re-color a sprite and call it a re-vamp. (I don't know how many times I've said this) the shading style on the older sprites is so different that the new sprites, it has to be fixed! The only other thing that brings your grade down is the outline color. I checked the HG/SS sprite, and I can't tell where you got your outline color from, and right now, it doesn't blend in very well.
quote euben0
[C] Am I the only one who thinks that this looks dark? ...oh no.... you didn't fix any of the shading, did you? Comparing the sprites side-by-side, the only difference I can see is the colors that are used. Exact same outlining, exact same shading style. Did you look at the Pokemon Diamond TC/Sprite re-vamp tutorial? (I really need to post mine, I hate what they're telling the spriters). Other than that, the main problem (which is also related to that) is that you'e used Pidgeot's shadow color in this sprite. That in itself isn't the problem, it's that the amount that you've used it a lot, making it look like the base color. I think you should practice your re-vamps a little more.
quote gothicunicorn
[C] I knew it! I knew someone would fall into the just-recolor it trap! (You looked at the tutorial in the Diamond TC/Sprite thread didn't you? I really don't agree with what they say). Older sprites really, always need to have their shading fixed. The outlining, the shading, and the style always have to be fixed. (I'll be posting my Re-vamp tutorial soon, I can't stand these just recolors.) I kinda knew that you didn't know about that little secret about re-vamps when I looked at that part of your trial judging (yes, I actually read them all). If I went into every little issue, I'd be typing for a while, so I'll just say to practice re-vamps for a while, remembering to fix the shading. Remember, older spriters used the black color as an actual shade, we only use it for outlining.
quote Pheonyx
[A] Yesssss, this is a really nice re-vamp, especially since you've resisted the urge to simply do a re-color as most spriters seem to like to do. There's only two little (and I do mean little) things I noticed. One is on the far 'horn' (or whatever it is) has a nice little dark pixel right in the middle of it. Remember, the older spriters who made these liked to use black as a shading shade (although I think you know that already). Second is the outlining on the plate on the right leg, you'll know which one when you zoom in and look. It's got the light part of the outline on the side facing away from the light! (You know how I get about shading ) Oh and yes, SL and I have been chatting about something really little, you guys'll see next week
quote Big_Burta
[A] I'm really glad you've started coming around again, your sprites are really something to be proud of. I like the scratch work you've done to fix the black shading done by the original spriters. There's only one little thing in there, right by the base of the yellowish-brown line, you shouldn't have the structure of the wing curl back around, it would look much better if it stayed in line with the rest of that structure. (I can't find the right words, sorry). I would have also liked to see you fix the original shading on the face, the original spriters shading looks... well... not right compared to the recent sprites. When you're re-vamping, it's always a good idea to have your old sprite and the current one right there to see. Don't worry, the outline looks perfect
quote platypus2go
[C] I know you don't like this much, and I have one little secret that might fix the whole thing! All you have to do is fix the shading from the original sprite, and the sprite will improve. Sorry fro almost missing this, I need to remember to check before I post... All it looks like you've done is re-colored, which to be honest, shouldn't count as a revamp, but I digress... I'll be posting a new revamp tutorial soon, which will help you a lot!
Announcement! It's finally time, after this long week of waiting, pondering who? Who would come in to be the newest member of the GPF Spriting Contest Judging team? So many wonderful spriters have come and gone, who will come in to join that small group of spriters, who will begin calling themselves 'judge'. I still remember all the judges that have come and gone, each leaving their everlasting mark upon this contest, their names to always be remembered by those of us who learned from their comments. This has been a very difficult decision, as I not only looked at your trial judging, but also the themes you set, the quality of the sprites you enter, and how active you are in this contest. There's more than just being able to accurately choose a grade for a sprite and give the spriter appropriate comments. You also want to see every spriter in your contest benefit from what you have to offer. There is always a definite sense of pride in your abilities and in your contest. This has been a very difficult process, for those of you who weren't involved, each potential judge was given the same eight sprites to judge, testing many of the different styles of spriting that are likley to come up in a contest. Okay, I've spoken long enough, now, it's the time you were waiting for, the new judge is... ... .. .
mudkipz master I hope everyone will make them feel welcome here!
