The insecticon that was shot by Blitzwing you mean? Technically that wasn't good aim by an autobot just a lucky chance that Kupp pulled the gun up as he was passing over.

Optimus doesn't count as the bulk of the Autobots. He came in guns blazing and took out half of the decepticon army by himself. While th rest of them couldn't even hit Devastator with missle 3 shots.

Note which ones were thrown off of Astrotrain. All the insecticons two of which were run over by Hotrod and Kupp and the other shot by blitzwing. Megs of course Thundercracker and Skywarp. All of which were taken out by Prime. Then of course some mysterious sweeps appeared from no where indicating there were more that we didn't see.

Why is this under the animation section?

I've never minded that they died, even though the reasoning behind it was to take out the old and bring in the new, and that may have been a bad assumption, but as a story stand point I think it works wonders and I would not want them to change it, having the best you've got taken out right away, can put team off kilter. I think people need to see the deaths and all that took place as a story points. And as to why in the cartoon tv series their were no deaths...um it was a children show in the 80s that is not something you can just do, unless they are through away characters like, Autobot X. Back about the deaths if you disliked those deaths, then don't read the comics, apparently bots drop a lot, only to be fixed and later go off line again, after while you will start thinking, um maybe we should just let them stay off line till the threat is over or minimal.
