How many of you still play N64 in 2007? - Page 3

I still love the N64. All I really play are Goldeneye 007, Tony Hawk, and Mario Kart, though. But occasionally, I'd play Star Wars Shadows of the Empire.

I play mine a lot. I generally just play SSB, Zelda, or Perfect Dark. My N64 collection isn't too big, anyway.

Nope, I only owned an N64 for two years, and I don't have it anymore. If I did still have it I'd probably play it every now and then for the novelty.

Heheh, I plugged my N64 last week and I was glad I did. I'm having fun playing all of my old favorite games like, Smash Bros, Banjo Kazooie, Kirby 64, and Harvest Moon 64. Awesome.

I still download games for it onto the Wii... does that count?

Here it is 2008 and I am pulling out my N64 to have a go at some of the racers. My biggest problem for this new year (I hope) is trying to sort through all of my retro gaming passions. I like original hardware gaming. Fluidity does that Wii download play like the real thing? The N64 was the last cartridge based console and I wished that there would be a return to some sort of cartridge based console. Something using a cart like the DS would be great.

It is sad that it seems that these forums dealing with the older systems almost have a feel of abandonment. As the years roll by it seems that people move on to the next generation of gaming which is expected. But there are games on the N64 that beg to be pulled out from time to time and replayed. Like today I pulled out Beetle Adventure Racing. As I sit here playing and writing this, I almost wished there had not been such a mentality in the N64 heyday of everything had to be "3D gaming." I wished there had been a slew of hand drawn sprite based games, like on the SNES, that had been made for the N64. I think that those type of games plus the 3D games that came out for the system could have pushed this system over the top. Because it is the games and not the power of the system that make it fun. We are seeing this today with the success of the Wii. My DS keeps me coming back to my N64. Looking at the games on it is what made me think about the sprite based gaming on the N64. I love the hand drawn art and animation in a game. I cringed in the day that there was such a move to 3D gaming that it abruptly left the 2D gaming in the dust. I do like some 3D gaming but I think it was a bad move to make all games totally 3D.

I think I will leave my N64 sitting here beside my desktop hooked up to my TV along with my Neo Geo CD. 2008 will see me revisiting some more N64 goodness. I will probably be buying more N64 games this year, because there are still some games out there for this system that I haven't played and I want that gaming experience. My last game that I purchased for my N64 was Beetle Adventure Racing in October 2007! I highly recommend this game to those of you who love a good racing game. It looks great with the memory expansion pack.

Instead of renaming this thread for 2008, I think it's better we start fresh with retro junkie's 2008 thread, instead of mixing up 2007 experiences with 2008.
