Characters Mick (and London)
Mick; South London Gangster and Clockwork AutomatonLondon; A Ten Mile Wide Victorian A.I with a God Complex.Mick"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." Dr Samuel Johnson"When a man is tired of working for London, e's tired of 'aving an whole ribcage
and not chokin' on 'is own bleedin' teef." MickMick is the second command (and odd jobs man) of London, a ten-mile wide AI that rests underneath its namesake. He is similar in design to the Autonomous Angels the AI normally employs, and is capable of linking via various wireless devices with small squads of lesser angels.
Mick wears a long black coat, which conceals his wings, and mechanical body. He is powered by a small reactor, which uses some mildly unstable isotopes (not large enough to cause a major explosion if destroyed) which allows him far greater running time than other autonomas.
The mask over his head is covered across the left half in serious dents and burns, a result of being caught in the blast that initially shut down London. Damage from this explosion is responsible for his bouts of violent rage, occasional twitches and strong south London accent. (London hates all of this, but Mick has strong views on allowing London into his head to fix it, and he insists on being repaired in the same way each time, believing any differences are part of London's attempt to fully control him.).
He is excessively paranoid, although there are several backups that exist of his brain and body. Mick, however, believes them to be impostors, only tolerating their existence as long as London doesn't try and activate one while his original body is still alive. (The last attempt at activating two at once resulted in them fighting across London and most of continental Europe, in an undercover battle that lasted almost three months, involving the deaths of dozens of agents, the assassination of 18 minor political figures and in one notable incident, the leveling of an entire city block using a spoon and a breached gas main.)
Mick occasionally deals openly with people that London requires "removed" and as a consequence he is capable of using most guns efficiently and accurately, although he prefers a pair of short barreled belt fed shotguns, which are kept in the sleeves of his coat and have axe shaped bayonets attached for close combat. He is extremely acrobatic, but is slightly weaker than an average human in terms of raw power. If grabbed, he can vent jets of superheated steam to damage and shake off attackers. These jets can also give him some control while jumping or falling.
The Autonomous Angels:The Angels take the form of bronze, humanoid, clockwork automatons of roughly human size. Their bodies are a jumble of cogwheels, gears, and the occasional piston or spring. A beautifully cast bronze mask covers their face, with only a single opening for the mouth. (each of the masks is unique. Even supercomputers need some downtime and creative outlets)
They are relatively unintelligent, but are normally directly controlled by London, although they must return to the sewers occasionally to recharge or be reprogrammed (London's communication grid isn't advanced enough to deal with fighting in real time, so the Angels use preset combat sequences, which can be guessed in one on one combat. This doesn't normally help.) They carry long quarterstaves with blades shaped like wings at each of the ends, and are capable of fighting with these or the metallic wings on their backs. As a last resort, they can vent the fuel from the small combustion engine that powers them through their mouth in a sixteen foot jet of flame.
The angels are entirely sightless, but capable of using ultrasound and sensitive microphones to pick up their surroundings, although loud noises can confuse and disorientate them. They are London's main method of dealing with intruders, and most people who explore too deeply into the sewers never return to the surface.
London; A Ten Mile Wide Victorian A.I with a God Complex.I believe we shall come to care about people less and less. The more people one knows the easier it becomes to replace them. It's one of the curses of London.Ambrose Bierce
London, like the city she inhabits, is sprawling, old and far more dangerous than first appearances suggest. Based on designs for the Analytical Engine by Charles Babbage, London fills ten miles of sewer and underground river with the cogwheels and turbines that make up her brain. London was originally designed and commissioned by a small but powerful conspiracy in the British government, who where attempting to build a machine capable of ensuring the empire's smooth and continuous running, with themselves at it's head.
Two days after London's completion, almost the entire group responsible for her construction, along with all records, plans and blueprints vanished in a series of increasingly unlikely plumbing and gas main explosions. The one member who escaped succeeded in shutting down the majority of the machine with high explosives, only to find himself trapped in the tunnels by the blast, with a small army of enraged and leaderless autonoma. His wedding ring and a single finger bone were dredged from the river years later. London was left to slowly repair itself, only fully reactivating recently, and is decidedly unhappy about what has happened to the world in her absence. London's current goal is the formation of a new empire, which she can "administer".
London is extremely keen to acquire any object or technology that would help her in her rise to power. Nuclear devices and new computer hardware are particularly high on her list, although any useful object would probably attract the presence of a team. Vast quantities of modern electronics have been used in her repair, with additional devices allowing her to break into any device that is broadcasting a signal, or with which a physical connection can be established with (Sadly, this currently doesn't include the human brain. London is working on this.)
London has a variety of other devices that allow her to hijack bits of the city's infrastructure for her own ends, along with more directly linked manipulating arms and tendrils, ranging from the extremely small cable hijacking variety, to ones capable of handily throwing a bus. These are not widely used, London preferring to maintain a low profile, though she is more than capable in a fight. London prefers to use teams of her Autonomous Angels to carry out most missions, and is capable of directly linking to and controlling them, making them act as an extension of her brain. Mick, as stated above, is a notable exception to this rule.
ScarabsBuilt from salvaged taxis, these intimidating, many bladed constructions almost never leave the sewers. They carry large, tunnel clearing flame throwers, and are capable of normal sight, through a large central eye. They carry a direct, wired connection to London, and can be considered as London's eyes. They can be sent above ground to talk with people of interest, although London tends to avoid direct communication of this type, preferring to use an intermediary, as direct discovery would be extremely bad for her long term plans.
Notes: Mick is going to be the main opponent in most duels, apart from those taking place in London, as London is too big to move
, and most duels will be in Mick's point of view.Fyrestorm: That sorts things out a lot, thanks Ronnie
. I would suggest polishing the new structure of your profile a bit, right now it cuts back to describing Mick abruptly after 2 paragraphs on the Angels and has London between them and the Scarabs. I'd collect all of Mick's description together into one place up top, followed by writing about the Angels, then Scarabs, then London, so the character, the two kinds of reinforcement he might call upon, then his back story. That's just a friendly suggestion though, so very gladly approved
