Log in to remove this sponsored message quote CliefI can do the formatting aspect for you Clief, or if not myself I'm sure Fyre would at some point. But if you don't want to dig into it to much, then the easiest thing you could do trope wise would be to put forth some Crowning Moments. If you can think back over what you've read and come up with moments you thought were awesome, (And I mean a level of awesome above what the NDL badasses are usually getting up too), moments that were heartwarming/made you go dawwwwww, or a moment that had you burst out laughing, then you could swing probably around 6 achievement points. They can't be your moments though, otherwise I'd have already filled up the Heartwarming section with nearly every Ged moment ever. And to make my post here more generally relevant, I am in a researching mood and I've decided to put that mindset towards troping because at least then it'll feel productive. And I'm just going to take a scattershot approach this time around and just do what comes naturally. ------------------- ![]() False hope leads to true despair, watch how quickly white turns to black.

finalfight actually if you want a trope-related project to get in on, I thought of something recently I put to a few people in an old NDL thread, who seemed to at least be amiable to the idea. Essentially, you may remember the unofficial tiers list Tiger Of Wu and co posted in the GD a while back, it was a fun little thing and as said, not official in any capacity, so there's no real legacy of it beyond the GD posts themselves and whatever anyone remembers, but I liked the idea. It so happens TV Tropes has its own tiers or "weights" system as well, and while logistical matters over on that site's side of things might stop us getting the sub-page for it I wanted, I think it'd still be fun to compile a list for
.First of all, our Bible of reference, the TV Tropes Super Weight article. Now the way it's laid out and described and the fact it starts from -1 and stuff may make it seem a little arbitrary, but after taking it in and thinking it over it's actually quite rationally structured, in my opinion, I'll try to recap it. Basically characters are broken down into 3 broad categories of power, which worst to best are called Muggle/Super/Cosmic. I would probably name them Mortal/Super/Divine or Godly myself, but let's go into the logic of these categories. The first category is for characters who exist within actual, real-life, mortal limitations, they may be really badass but they can't do anything a real person couldn't do with sufficient training and experience, i.e. they don't have any "powers". The second category is for those characters who can do things where the act itself isn't impossible, but it being done by a mere person is. For example, destroying a city isn't impossible itself, nuclear weapons do that, it's a person doing it that is, so these are your classical super powers, hence Super. The final category is for characters who can do things that are outright impossible at all in reality, where they can basically bend, ignore or rewrite the laws of reality. I think the term Cosmic comes from the fact a few things that would get you into that category do exist in real life, just not on our planet, some of the universal extremes like black holes and such, commanding that kind of power would probably go beyond Super, but anyway. After that, the 3 categories are broken down into 3 sub-sections each. With Muggles you have weak people in the first one, children, the non-badass elderly, less-strength-than-human animals and so. In the 2nd is normal human adults, and the 3rd is badass real people like trained soldiers, martial artists and so on, as well as strong predators like tigers and bears. Super goes category 1: characters who are mostly mortal but have some super powers, say like a magic user who eats and bleeds and takes a brick to the head just as well as any real person, but they can throw a few fireballs as well. The 2nd category is for general super-poweredness, where the character's all around capabilities like strength, speed, resilience and so on will be beyond mortal limits even if that's not their particular power. To put a random example out there, Sonic the Hedgehog is known for his speed, but he also has the implied physical toughness to slam himself into metal-armoured machines and come out on top, and take a laser or missile or such to the face and survive if he has rings. The top category of Super is for those characters who are insanely powerful in most if not all regards, so again take Sonic, his speed is his forte and he doesn't just go faster than any normal creature could but faster than almost anything can, including jet fighters and rockets. Top category for Super is for characters who are like that all or close to all around - characters who can juggle mountains and outrun lightning and shrug off nuclear explosions and such. And finally Cosmic weight starts with characters who may be able to ignore or influence laws of reality in some limited capacity, the second category is for those who pretty much have authority over or embody some laws of realities, for example Gods in a pantheon who individually hold dominion over their own specialisations, like lightning or the sea, universally. The final category last of all is basically a singular God or God-like entity with this same dominion over nigh-everything. So that's my breakdown and understanding of it: weak/normal/skilled mortals, then supers who are mostly mortal but have a few powers/supers who are all round beyond mortal, maybe exceptionally so in their speciality/supers who are hugely beyond mortals in pretty much all areas, and last of all Godlike beings who can interfere with or influence the laws of reality/Godlike beings who command the laws of reality perhaps over certain aspects/Godlike beings who command pretty much all laws of reality, and aside maybe from other Cosmics interfering, wield an influence on par with the writer. I figure most NDL characters will fall into the Super category, with maybe a few high-end Muggles and low-end Cosmics around the edges, virtually no one uses a character who isn't at least skilled if lacking any actual powers and reality-warping tends to be boring in a competitive scene without clear limits. So we'd probably get most entries around the middle 5 which, happily enough with the TV Tropes range is numbers 1 to 5, with NPC or lore elements probably falling in the -1, 0, 6 and 7 ranges, if anything does. Although I didn't make my characters with this scale in mind or aware of it, I personally pitch them around weight 2/low-Super usually, ranging up to 3/mid-Super if they get a particularly powered-up scene where plot or circumstances basically let them limit break. I'd be quite interested in compiling a category-based list of NDL characters, maybe giving some multiple entries if transformations or limited-use capabilities or such let them qualify higher up under certain conditions, I reckon we could even make it comprehensive with all NDL characters if we try .-------------------

Fyrestorm, I am so into this idea you don't even know. We should probably stick with just active members characters to begin with. Would you want me to just go over them, say where they should be ranked, and give a brief explanation I feel that way? Then we can debate over individuals who should be higher/lower. I'm gonna get started on that, and keep an eye on my notifications just in case you had something else in mind.

finalfight hahaha, glad to hear I'm not alone
. That's my thinking as well, first we pool characters to add, then we allocate each to major tiers (Normal/Super/Godly, should hardly take any thought in 98% of cases), then finally for the last step we sort them into specific weights within those, giving reasoning for their placement where appropriate, making decisions on edge-cases/extra forms/so on, and presto.I'm gonna do a comprehensive list of every character whose owner has done something in the NDL, so they're free from risk of deletion, and tier them between the big 3. It'll be good groundwork to get done and I kinda feel in the mood for it, and then if we wanna fully categorise more characters we've got a list and links to build off . You do your thing as if I wasn't - if we have any discrepancies that's mean there's something worth looking over deeper .-------------------

Fyrestorm I caught your message a little ways in, so the first part of the list is gonna shoot for ranks, from there on though its just Muggle/Super/Cosmic.
Spoiler:List in Question Al the Killer's Silence Templesmith: Has good physical traits, but nothing superhuman. Has weapons useful against demons, but otherwise standard. Has access to magic, but nothing notably overpowering. When in Pride form has temporary physical and mental boosts. Normal Rank 2, Pride Rank 2/3. Animalover's Maru: No noteworthy physical traits save for a high speed. Her unique ability to move spherical objects is hard to quantify, but likely qualifies her be Rank 2. Archimonder_STG's Jabahal: Strong physically and further boosted through magical enchantments. Has a large access to magical abilities, most notable being his ability to summon meteors cabably of city destroying level of damage. The meteor ability takes time though, and isn't very useful in small one on one battles. As a normal fighter he'd be Rank 3, but it could be argued that the level of destruction brought on by his meteors could justify Rank 4. Still though Rank 4 seems to suggest a character capable of such feats at will so I don't think Jabahal completely qualifies. Aulis Vaara's Suuri: Nothing special physically, but strong magical ability. Doesn't have anything that could qualify her as a Rank 4, but meets the requirements for rank 3 easily. Bale Fire's Leo: Physically gifted, but nothing superhuman. Uses basic guns. Comparable to a super soldier. Probably a Rank 1. Bale Fire's Chase: Physically normal, has access to a small amount of blessings he can cast. Wields a nearly indestructable element. Most notable is his ability to manipulate water which is only limited by the amount of water at hand. Is a Rank 3, but if forced to fight in a dry area would likely be bumped down to a Rank 2. Clief's Clief: Physically gifted, but not superhuman. Has a large variety of magic and energy based attacks. Dragon fusion makes him stronger, but not enough to make him a Rank 4. This leaves him as a Rank 3. Corruption's The Writer: The writer is for all intents and purposes God, capable of rewriting to universe how he sees fit. His only handicap is his fear of wasting pages in his book and stepping closer to is eventual death. He is certainly a Cosmic rank. The fact that he is mortal means he can't be Rank 7, but Rank 6 isn't unreasonable. Corruption's Lavir: The Power of Badass is specifically stated to keep him on the level of his opponents so his rank is relative to who he is fighting. Barring Corruption saying otherwise, and having read Blood Red Summer, I think its fair to say that he couldn't take on a capital G God, and thus I'd say his limit would be at either Rank 5 or 6. Then again having read the SDT final battle against Rust with all of its reality altering mayhem, I could see why a Rank 7 might be justified. Then again, then again, Since the Brofist of Power further increases his strength I'd say his normal limit is Rank 5/6 with the ability to get to 6/7. Corruption's Kalek: Has a large variety of abilities, but is not always capable of using them. Though somewhat inconsistent his powers on average insures he'd be at least Rank 3. Corruption's Maxwell: I don't even want to try to rank Maxwell. He was practically designed to defy traditional rankings, but I would argue that his most fitting ranking would be sald;kfggh. Ok realisitcally I'd say that he's normally hovering around Rank 2-4, with the potential to go Rank 5 or higher in the right situation, but not at will. DG's Mortis Blackwraith: Super DG's Carnifex Deum: Super DG's Executioner: Super DG's Ultimate Showdown Abomination: Super finalfight's Ged Tenshi: Super Fire_Phoenix's Lia: Super Fyrestorm's Raphius: Super Fyrestorm's Crysis and Zone: Super Fyrestorm's Noxequa: Super haalyle's Cassie Darkman: Muggle Hmszelda's Kat Whisker: Muggle, has the potential to be Super. Would Barshka be chaotically evil? I don't get the alignment things to well. All I know is Barshka will kill and torture anyone that isn't the king. He murders his pupils parents just to make said pupil stronger. He enjoys torturing, and enjoys killing just as much.

Oooh. I didn't realize this was a thing, and since there's quite a bit of debate on some of my characters (so proud! xD), I'll clear a few things up.
First, regarding the Writer (both incarnations of them), the original Writer (C) is the lowest Cosmic level possible, so rank 5. Cele, however, is a far, far more potent and powerful reality warper than he is. I don't want to say more, because I do still intend to finish Blood Red Summer parts 2 and 3, but suffice to say, she sits comfortably at level 6. REI-LOS is a bit of a special case. If she were to use her Level 5 mode, she could probably push the upper limits of rank 4, but otherwise, I see her sitting comfortably at rank 3. Maxwell, potentially could fight at a Cosmic level, especially with the Brofist of Power activated so that his RNG powers are no longer RNG, and he is immortal... Let's just put him in all of the ranks. ![]() Kalek is a rank 4, pretty simple in my opinion. Lavir's rank is similar to Maxwell's, in that his powers are limited by whatever task he is trying to accomplish. Since most characters in the NDL sit pretty comfortably in the Super tier, I'd just place him there for convenience's sake, but with potential to jump to rank 6, as seen in the Camo Man vs Lavir speed duel. As for Plot Convenience Man, as noted, rank 7. -------------------

NDL-Jabahal is Rank 3. A top Rank 3, but still 3. His telekinesis is sorta meant to be a game breaker, allowing him to beat almost anyone one on one, but then again, he's dumbed down to not use it here as often as he should.

As for Zander is rank 4 though maybe a weak rank 5. There is a reason he only uses his flash shield as a stationary defense. It can vaporize bullets in the time it takes them to cross a space less than half an inch. The heat energy required to do that would realistically cause massive explosions if not contained(thermonuclear if I'm right). The main reason he doesn't allow this is obvious he doesn't want to kill himself by killing the world he lives on.
To sum it up as a neutral good maybe neutral neutral(not true neutral) type, he restricts himself to non-lethal force except under pressing circumstances, two keeping said force under control requires at least an equal amount of effort, and three he must maintain control or risk making the world he is on inhospitable. Leanne is looking to be a solid rank 2 unless you consider versatile high energy weapons grounds for rank 3.
