Scheduled Downtime Later Today

Hi everyone,

We're preparing for some potential downtime and instability later today as we move our servers to a different part of the ISP's facility, retire some old servers, and add some new, much more powerful servers to our architecture. We estimate this can occur sometime in the evening hours of the PST timezone (it could be around the 6pm PST, 2am GMT time).

These changes are necessary as we continue to proactively improve the site's architecture to keep it running smoothly and reliably. It will also help us maintain the site better in the future as we have been planning a major improvement to how we do server and site maintenance.

We rarely move servers from location to location, and this time we're also changing IPs for the domain names due to some technical changes at the ISP's network level. This means there will be a greater chance of disruption than normal depending on your ISP's own servers.

We're working with the ISP to try to minimize any inconvenience to users, and I'm hopeful that the downtime will be very minimal. Still, please be prepared and be patient, we appreciate your continued support .

If you want to keep up to date with both our site news and the site status, Twitter is a good way to get alerts even if the site is unreachable in your area. You can follow @neoseeker and my own account @darkcobalt or watch our Facebook page, where I will keep you updated as to our progress and what difficulties we might be having, if any. Just curious, do you,have an estimate of how long the downtime might take Redemption?

I can't be sure right now. There are 2 big factors:

• moving the databases (this could take 30-90minutes)
• changing our DNS settings. This will take however long your ISP decides to cache our old IP. We've asked ISPs to cache no longer than 1hour at the moment. Many decide to ignore this.

The two items above may not occur consecutively. I think you're looking at potentially 1-4hrs of downtime or at least unreliable accessibility.
