XP.

My boyfriend bought me Alice, because I'm obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, as well as Quake III Arena... haha.. so he thought it would be a nice combination. I loved this game and became highly addicted.

(here's the black cloud...) My computer died and I had to get a new one. It has XP on it. Is there ANY way to get Alice to work with XP? Like a driver I could download or something? Ahhhh. I'm going crazy without my game!

re: XP.

I haven't tried running Alice under XP but I will as soon as I sign off. If you open the Alice folder and right click on the program, one of the options will be 'compatability mode'. Set it to '98 and your problems, if they don't have to do with install, should go away. If it's an install problem then Rogue(the program writers) should have info on their site on the install for XP.

re: XP.

Just installed and played Alice. No problem. I have XP pro and haven't had any probs with any other games except Deus Ex which I have to run in '98 compatablity mode.

Sorry

Uh... I went to their website and could not find any help.

Where do I change it to wind 98? or whatever you said. It seemed to help the other girl...

I am so sad.

re: XP.

Nevermind, I got it... I'll try this out.

THe last time i played alice, I had it on my windows 98 SE
and it blew my motherboard up... no more computer. It wasn't the games fault it was just a sheer accident that it blew up the same time I was TRYING to play Alice.

re: XP.

Still isn't working. I did that change to widnows 98 thing but still sayz the same thing.
It says to get some kinda Reg Form, or something and there is that on the disc but I click it and it says it's invalid.

I can't get anything to EA or Alice... I've tried to contact them but still....

I've only had problems with this game... ARGH.

re: XP.

What error message are you having? I've never run into any problems under XP with this game.

re: XP.

It says my cdcode is invalid... the reg is invalid. But I haven't even put a code in because i haven't had a chance to.
So I go into the disk's file and find the Reg Code... I click on it and it says it's invalid still and it's not a faulty disk because I can install it and put the code into my Win 98...

so something on my XP is causing it to do that....
it had to have happened to someone else out there! And freakin' EA is not helping...

re: XP.

hey, my alice worked fine on my 98 system. after xp got put on it though, its messed up. it boots up n plays fine and all that good stuff. but graphical glitches happen everywhere. like skins and stuff flash n change colors and stuff disappears n reappears. its extremely distracting. but my 98 never did this, any ideas?

re: XP.

did any of you guys (or girls) have ALice on 98, then upgrade to XP? that might be the problem, try uninstalling Alice (but keep the saves) and reinstalling it

re: XP.

American McGee's Alice has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

for arguements sake (and perhaps for a better error message ive tried the debug option a few times.
Unhandled exception in alice.exe 0xC0000096riviledged Instruction.
it installs fine and ive given it win98/me compatability but it doesnt help (and then the debug option just gives an error message itself).

my system specs:
xp pro sp1
2.4ghz 1gb
starforce geforce 4 mx 440)agp8x) series (nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 (AGP8X))
realtek'97
and yes this is an admin account in xp.

re: XP.

Heya...I have WinXP Pro...
Back then I played through Alice without problems...but that was on Win98 SE...
Well...if your problem is that Alice wants to start, but then comes back to desktop only showing an error message in the console, you have to install the newest driver for your graphics card...and BE SURE to REALLY install those...better check the install notes of the driver...
That's because WinXP doesn't have opengl supported with its default drivers...and Alice needs opengl to run...

Well...now I got it to work...but I still have a problem...seems to be the same as with "Alice Fan" (do you have found a solution yet?)...

I do have found a way to make it run properly (a program called SciTech DirectGL 4.0), but with that program running, my frame rate drops severly, cause I've got a lame pc :-/ ...
Does anyone have a solution for getting rid of that flickering and stuff?

re: XP.

hey,
I've got XP too and all I get is 'please insert correct CD ROM' whenever I try and start it. I can play the video preview of that other game (can't remember the name!) that's on the disc so I know it's not a graphics problem and I've tried ALL the different possible compatibility options and ALL the combinations of these and still no go. This is driving me mad! is it some really stupid little problem that i'm doing wrong?! I know it's CD 1 I'm inserting but I have a nagging feeling there's something else I could be doing. Any news on a patch from anywhere for XP yet?
Thanks -x-
