Dreamcast SCART Cable
|
I just got a Dreamcast from the UK and I am in New Zealand. I don't have a SCART input on my HD TV. Is it better to buy a cable like this or can I buy a conversion socket or something like that? mod edit: fixed your link to display correctly Mod Edit: Aug 22, 09 by LanDi Sama

You can get SCART to Composite adaptors, but they're not that common. It'll probably easier to get a composite cable instead. Something like this would do, but the proper cable is likely cheaper

Personally, I'm from the UK, so I know what the scart cable looks like. They are very expensive.
You can get scart to composite adapters, as RoH said before me, but you're probably best off buying a composite cable.
You can alternatively get an RF Lead, but they aren't the way to go.

Late (but hopefully on-topic)
I have a recently acquired HDTV and I have a Dreamcast but I use the standard RF cable that comes with it, the quality isn't terrible but you can definitely tell the difference between it and composite.
However, I can't tell you how much fun it was having to manually tune the TV to find the correct channel for the Dreamcast, haven't done that in years

I'm also having a bit of trouble understanding Dreamcast cables. I have a HD LCDTV, but I don't fancy forking out for a VGA box, so am looking for the next best thing which I gather would be an RGB SCART cable (correct me if I'm wrong). So, I found the official Dreamcast scart cable that looks like this. However, I e-mailed the seller to ask if it was RGB, and they didn't 'understand my terminology'! So, does anyone know if this cable is also RGB?

Very late I know, but in regard to the last post.
I don't think it is RGB, since posting here I have bought an RCA (Yellow, White, Red) cable and that works very well except that it still looks a bit naff on an LCD TV.
I think if any Dreamcast users have HDTVs they should really fork out for one of those VGA boxes, but only if they really want the higher quality, otherwise just use a CRT TV.
Just realised I sort of rambled there...
TL/DR: I don't think the scart cable is RGB, I could be wrong though.

I am in the UK and play a Dreamcast on a crt tv and there is a big difference when you switch to Av-scart,its is worth upgrading any way you can i mean the supplied rf cable is trash and just gives lines of interference lol
