EQ is DOOM'ed

I totally agree. I really can't see how ppl can play this game when most of your time is spent waiting, and most of the time for nothing. I can't believe how much time i've spent on this game. My fiance, on the other hand, actually played DAoC and went back to EQ. Who knows why... anyways, despite all of it, I'll still give Luclin a try, since character models are important to me, and I did see screenshots of them and they looked great. I just wish they would have made some gameplay improvements for the love of god.

The thing about the servers list seems true. I thought of that myself when they were suddenly missing lol. Seems like they'll be doomed... but there's so many crazed EQ fanatics out there, it just may survive.

1. And EQ is not boring after its highest lvl 60?
2. Your friends are not a good sample - try thousands who have terminated their EQ accounts because of DAoC.

I suspect that Gary and his buddies are between ages 13 and 19 - when thrills come at hack and slash ad nauseum. I also suspect that Gary & Co. are melee class.

Let me ask Gary the following:

a. What has better graphics? Hands down DAoC - EQ not even close
b. What game has better handling of loot? Hands down DAoC. No ninja looting by warriors.
c. What game has better guild system? No question - DAoC.
d. What game has unique individual character development? DAoC does - in EQ, ever char at a certain lvl has same spells.
e. What game compensates for the extreme arrogance found on EQ - DAoC (since you have TEAM (i.e., Realm) RvR (PvP). You dont have a guild who dumps on you because you are a member of another guild - since you need everyone in RvR. In addition, EQ has extreme arrogance - if one player camped an epic or other beast for hours and the other player does not (oh now the new status symbol is a horse - for gods sake) - that player typically feels like they are superior. How often do lvl 40's talk with a lvl 15 player in EQ - 1 percent of the time - because the lvl 40 is just superior thats all (hehe).

I could go on - but I want to know what Gary likes about EQ? He just gives his opinion - without even making any comparisons. What does he like about EQ more than DAoC? (other than at 50 it gets boring - and he should tell us what makes EQ more fun at 60 than DAoC at 50).

I suspect that Gary does not have a 50 char on DAoC. If so, what char and what server. Gary will not be able to tell you - because to get lvl 50 in DAoC would take some doing - and the game has been out for only 2 months (compared with 4 or so years for EQ).

Its that kind of mindless banter by EQ'ers that make me hate that game.

I agree with Riot - the genre is getting old. I do think, however, that all games get old after a while. And I was wondering what could be revlolutionary. The only thing I can think of is a game that you actually learned something that was helpful in RL.

Oh well, in the meantime, when nothing is happening around the house, I will continue to sit back and enjoy DAoC

Considerably confused? How so? Fantasy gaming has been around for ages, sure... I've been gaming since I was young, but the MMORPG genre is what I was talking about, not fantasy gaming. I suppose I meant that it is getting stale compared to how the fighting game genre is getting stale, if you get my reasoning. I don't place the blame solely on the programmers, that's for sure. People definitely are part of the downfall that made me lose interest. At times I wished I was playing a single player game when online, which I guess is pretty bad since the game is all about playing in group.

A little bit more about the game getting boring... for me, new classes and starting locations aren't enough anymore. They've gotta add something extra. A new class is just like starting a different newbie char in a new zone... same rules and restrictions apply. New gameplay needs to be implemented to keep me interested. I'm not saying it should be done... but to keep me interested, it must.

I bought the expansion because I do play EQ from time to time... I was hoping to see something that would keep me interested, but so far it hasn't sparked up much unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater of EQ, I'm just getting bored. Same thing goes for all the other MMORPGs as well. I still have to try Lineage tho.

Precious Ultima? lol where did that come from? I haven't played that in like a year. Did someone make an Ultima comment that I missed? OSI needs to take some _serious_ self-help classes. Last I checked, they still didn't give a crap about their players.

Are you a game designer? It seems like you are protecting the designers, so I wasn't sure. Just curious. I'm not saying the programmers are bad or anything. IMO, the programmers for MMORPGs at the moment are lacking in vision for my taste. Sure, lots of ppl are playing these games now and since and are having fun. After playing MMORPGs since day one of UO, I'm finally and completely waiting for something truly different... and I don't know what. I can only wait and hope. Maybe Final Fantasy Online will be fun, with the Job System and all.

Stop being so negative Riot! Eq is something that broke the borders of MMORPG,whether you like it or not!
