Adventure game fans sure let their voices be heard when Red Thread Games launched a Kickstarter to revive The Longest Journey series. The new game, titled Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, had an $850,000 goal that was hit about a week after going live. Yesterday the Kickstarter ended and over $1.5 million was raised for Dreamfall Chapters; nearly double the initial goal.
Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is a 3D adventure game set to arrive November 2014 for the PC, Mac, and Linux, with those last two platforms made possible through extra funding. Other stretch goals that were reached include: in-game library, expanded locations, more characters, new stories, the "House of All Worlds," a better soundtrack, German and French language versions, an interactive graphic novel to recap the first two games, and even a Director's Cut version.
That's a ton of extra goodies all made possible by the nearly 22,000 backers. Even with all that support, the final two stretch goals weren't reached to enable Android and iOS ports and a 2D point-and-click adventure called The Longest Journey Home. The good news is Red Thread would like to make that point-and-click game a reality down the road, just it'll more than likely have to wait until Dreamfall Chapters launches.
