Trouble in Chapter 7 of BG

I've been having a problem with chapter 7 in Baldur's Gate. The first time I went through, I got up to Sarevok in the Palace, but when he finished his speech - instead of everyone turning into dopplegangers as they should have, he simply stood there. I attacked him, hoping it would move things along, and it did start a battle, but he did not disappear after a certain amount of damage like he was supposed to. I ended up killing him there, which stopped the game. My characters were still standing around doing nothing, but I couldn't click on anything.

So I started it over. Now I have a new problem. I can get up through the catacombs beneath Candlekeep, after being framed and arrested and what not. But once I go back to Baldur's Gate - the Flaming Fist ignores me, rather than trying to arrest me, and none of the characters that should be there are actually there. The story has not advanced. It says in my journal that I'm wanted by the law, and that I was framed, and that I need to go to the Iron Throne building again, but everything's the same as when I left to go to Candlekeep.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so - does anyone know what exactly I'm doing wrong here? I've tried the patches, and I've even bought several editions of the game, but this keeps happening.

hmm mayby you should download the latest patch well mayby not because u want be able to get the ring of wizardry by the tree in freindly arm inn ;-P
