I think with the upcoming Neo-Awards it brought a good point up among a lot of people on neoseeker. 'Popularity contests', as some say, are all what it's about. Maybe not just on Neo-Awards, but on all the forums. People often think it's about who you know, whether you're good at making banners, your age, and things like that. I admit, some people aren't born to be the most popular kid in class, or be as badass as me. But that doesn't mean you should let other people control your life, and stop you from going ahead and applying for that moderator job that you think you have no chance at.

I've talked with quite a few people and read countless posts stating "I will never win anyway", maybe in a vain attempt to get a vote or nomination out of a member that has pity for them. Other times things so simple as posting your battle in the emcee forum, or whether or not to go talk to that member that 'Oh-so higher up than me', for fear that they will run at the mouth about how bad their banner is, or some other excuse.

One thing that doesn't put a good image in others' mind is lying about your age, or claiming to be the hot-shit at everything, when you really have no knowledge what-so-ever. IRC seems to be the recent battle to be heard, or to get that OP status. Begging and complaining about how only "Popular Members and Moderators" only get it, doesn't improve your chances. Don't always worry about making the perfect post, don't always fret over petty things like having the best neohome.

It's a site, it has forums, they're meant to be fun. Don't obsess over something you will forget in a few years. It isn't to be taking as a second school, or to be thought of as a new way to gain power of people. Be yourself, it's gets you farther than you think.

Well, that's some good advice.

But is popularity on Neoseeker really an issue to anyone here? This isn't real life.

I made a post earlier that included a comment on how more 'popular' people (Slacker, KFC_Or_Bust etc.) will generally get more votes. Well it's true isn't it? What's wrong with stating the obvious? I pointed out my own relative unpopularity, but do I care? Think I want people to pity me? That really isn't my style.

I agree with the thing about true friends. I don't mind if not many people know me; because I have a few real good friends here. And one REALLY good friend, if ya know what I'm sayin'...!

People aren't here to battle amongst each other. Or compete for the most friends. The concept of the Neo Awards is nice. And the outcome? So be it. People get lucky.
