	Log in to remove this advertisement Is anyone on Neo currently in or was in an "interpolitical relationship"? That is, a relationship where your girlfriend/wife or boyfriend/husband shares different political views than you. My girl is a liberal democrat and I'm a right-leaning independent. You can bet we've had numerous political "debates" over the course of our relationship (in which I usually lost for the sole fact that I'm the guy). Even though there are differences in opinions, I firmly believe being on different sides of the political spectrum can help formulate new opinions and cause one to become more open minded on a wide variety of topics. 	It always makes me laugh that you get Americans who will argue about religion or politics (at parties/dinner parties especially) to the point of falling out with someone, especially someone you supposedly love. I've had a few girlfriends, and I haven't known or wanted to know what Political side any of them votes for - and they've never asked me either. The only time I can see something like this becoming an issue with a couple is over children. If one person was against abortion and one was for - then what would the couple do with the baby in the event that the girl accidentally got pregnant. 	Only a few. Other relationships were too idiotic to even comprehend a political discussion. Hell, ask them who the best president is and they would say "Obama because that's my dawg man, he representing for the poor black folk" and that's still their mentality, to this day. I agree and disagree with points on both sides, I just don't care enough to give myself to one side though. I consider myself neutral. My mother recently decided she didn't like how the Democratic Party was doing things and decided to back the Republican Party instead (・ω・) -------------------

	And why is it something that should define or take control over a relationship? I don't giving a flying bleep what my partner's political views, religion, or favored sock pattern is. What I want is someone who doesn't care either, making any debates non-existant. Ain't nobody got time for that in a relationship. As for people who would have debates, the annoying sods who won't shut up about the horribleness of Obama or how Republicans are money-driven jerks, well I'd never be in a relationship with them in the first place because that trait of "I'm going to scream my views to everyone else and shove it down their throats, and if somebody doesn't like it we can settle it with a time-consuming, pointless debate!" is an immediate turn off to me.

And it's not that I always think they're pointless, I understand how important they are, it's just that I personally don't really care about politics, and I'd rather not have a debate about it because it's not like it's going to go anywhere. When political figures debate, it could determine the next president. When a normal person debates, it's most like just going to end in a slamming of doors.

	Anyone I've dated has had political/religious views somewhat similar to mine, so I've never been in that predicament. That being said, I'm pretty sure I'd be able to handle political differences well in a relationship because I just wouldn't bring topics up. Easy fixin'. edit: Chaosfire They're obviously different enough to cause friendships/relationships/families to blow up about them. Get into an abortion argument or a "big government vs. small government" argument sometime with someone on the other side of the political spectrum and tell me they're not that different. ------------------- last.fm

Just because I said something doesn't mean I automatically meant it towards you. I was addressing the entire post towards the issue in general and how some people really do like to talk about politics a lot. I wasn't really talking to you.

I was addressing the entire post towards the issue in general and how some people really do like to talk about politics a lot. I wasn't really talking to you. He's sensitive. --- I generally end up dating girls who I assume are liberals and all my girlfriends have been intelligent but I don't think I can remember ever specifically having a "Liberal!" "Conservative!" argument except for one girl who voted NDP right after they back stabbed the country and I told her that her party was a bunch of traitorous pieces of shit but it wasn't much of a debate, she's a liberal now because she saw the error of her ways.

	Yes me and my ex were 8) it probably would have been fine, but i'm pretty uninterested in politics and he was pretty obsessed. What bothered him most wasn't that we didn't really have the same views, it's that i just didn't really care enough about it.
