An ex girlfriend and i were once watching the first Batman movie with Micheal Keaton.

My girlfriend turns to me and said:

"I know your gonna laugh, but im not stupid, i know Batman isnt real... But is Gotham City real?"

I have a friend who I met my freshman year of high school. When he was a sophomore, he had to ask me left from right, and ask a teacher to look up his home address, because he didn't know it.
When he was a senior, I asked him what his middle name was, and he actually wasn't sure. He had to pull out his ID and check it.
He's a really nice guy, and he's fun to be around, but he definitely isn't the smartest person on the planet.

Geography in Primary School (UK equivalent of Elementary School) we were taught what the continents were. However, there is a very vague definition. A continent is thought of being as a huge, landmass, but this would mean only four continents exist, America, Afro-Eurasia, Oceania (Australia) and Antartica. Europe is joined to Asia and Africa is joined along with the Isthmus of Suarez (where the Suarez Canal is) to Asia. Since North and South America are joined together by the land that the United States of Mexico that makes America in it's entirity a continent. However, the term used to describe these landmasses are super-continents when going by the technical definition of a continant as a being a continuous landmass seperated from others by an ocean would make them just regular continents and North and South America being a subcontinent of America in the same way that Europe, Asia and Africa a subcontinent of Afro-Eurasia.

State education in the UK is never that bad. There was the occasional 'lawl facepalm' moment but not to the scale it was just utter embarassing. I do recall mispronouncing Alabama as 'Alabarma' in Geography though. I geniunely thought that was how you said it.

A girl in my school once based that "If you go to the moon, when you get back you can't see people." off of spongebob. She was being 100% serious.

Reading comprehension has nothing to do with the person who is doing the reading. What it means is that you understand what you read. Or in the situation you describe, it would mean you understand what is being read to you. It makes perfect sense, and absolutely nobody should assume it to be a joke.

What would be hard to believe is if you had someone explaining to you what it means, for that would defeat the purpose of the test.

Having the passages read to you still allows for completely accurate results.

Not exactly. It's possible speak a language fine without being able to read it. I once asked one of the people who get the tests read to them and she flat out told me it's because she can't read well enough to get a passing grade.

It's about the norm. My school is terrible when it comes to average intelligence of the people that populate the hallways. So, I'll confirm the PA stupidity.

I'd say it has a lot to do with reading. Reading comprehension is understanding what you're reading. I understand where you're coming from but comprehending what you're reading and comprehending what you're hearing are two different things imo.
