I think some people are missing the point. This is about games that are techically amazing, super well told (story, music, voice acting) and actually made a diffrence to gaming today................Oh and Fun to play.!

If you look at the list Spike made

Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, Red Dead Redemption, Shadow of the Colossus, Wii Sports, World of Warcraft, Half-Life 2

I think most of them should not be on here!

Bioshock........ Great to look at, good story, well pretty good story towards the end... But i feel it was nothing amazingly new.

Batman.......Come on?? Its got great rating buut!! It should not be above games like gta sanandreas!

Legend of Zelda WW....... Second best zelda game made in my oppinion (behind OOT) but it didn't really do anything new! It told a great story.....brilliant character, beautiful world! Buuuut thats what all zelda games do.

Red Dead Redemption........Don't bother talking about any rockstar games before talking about the games that really started all the sandbox stuff off! Gta III or sanandreas!

Shadow of the colossus........ Not a game i know a lot about, never played it........Not sure if it was a super mainstream game...... I can't say if it should or should not be on this list..... But I don't think it has effected the gaming world very much.......aside from the way some boss battles are done these days.

Wii sports........ ok I do actually get this! It changed alot for people who don't normally play games.. Not 100% sure it should be here but i understand why it is.

World of warcraft...........I have never actually played this, I don't think i intend to. But i agree that it should be on this list! It has done so much for MMO games......and it has changed alot for alot of games through the years.



This list is missing your , Mass effects, halos, burnouts, the sims, Gtas, uncharteds.........There are alot of games that did alot of amazing things that have and will change gaming for us... I think that the games where not picked very well.

Oh, it did change things alright - it made it A-OK to constantly take play control away from you for a WHOA MAN SO CINEMATIC cutscene when the actual gameplay is mediocre at best. *bleep* Uncharted and its legions upon legions of fans. There are better PS3 exclusives ffs

Yeah, I'd argue SH2 and MGS2 were art games but they didn't get the "artsy" attention like Colossus did. There was even a movie based around it being used as a coping device. Plus the gameplay was pretty boss itself.

And Ico is pretty obscure and not as good a game imo

First big fps since HL2 to ditch the conventional CoDness that the genre had all but become. Great narrative blended seamlessly with fun shooting and stealth combined together and soaked in atmosphere.

Batman

A game changer for third person beat em ups, action adventure, and stealth. One of the best combat systems ever. Period.

Wind Waker

Represented the beginning of the greatest console ever made. Took a huge leap of faith in terms of graphics and overall structure. Possibly the first game ever to give a game world a real sense of scale and included probably the best combat and dungeons in one of the most important series ever.

WoW

Obvious. One of the most successful games ever. I didn't like it but oh well, it has a claim to be nominated.

HL2

Launched one of the most important programs in the industry, in addition to being a pivotal title in not only FPS games but the industry entirely. Flawless level design, nice variety in weaponry, the greatest engine ever at its time and one of the most influential. First real game based around physics. One of the best stories ever told, great voice acting, and again seamlessly blended narrative and gameplay and didn't sacrifice either

Mass Effect went downhill after the first one. Didn't really innovate anything. Bioware had been doing the shit in that game for years.

Halo sucks.

Burnout was the same every time with the exception of Paradise. But there are way more conventional racing games in the genre today.

So the Sims deserve it but Wii Sports doesn't? Makes no sense. More people played wii. Also, how does the Sims have a great story, is amazing technically etc etc? Same with burnout

San Andreas should have been nominated over RDR but it doesn't really matter. They're both great

This is so dumb! First off, I am not the kind of fan boy gamer type of gamer and some of these games i never actually played!! I just go buy what i see, what i hear and what i know. I also want to know why most of the games nominated where from the last 4 years of the decade.......

Bioshock..... I played this game not knowing about what it was....(outside of all the hype).... It was a nice game all round.. (aside from having little story)..... but its not game of the decade material. A Fps game that did more in my opinion was fallout 3,fps/rpg.....But really what started fallout 3 was oblivion. so where is that? maybe not the best main story, but it had so many great side stories that it deserves to be recognized.

Batman..... Never played it......seen a lot about it, I did see that it had a great fighting system.. But if you want to talk about fighting in an action adventure games.....then lets just go roll back the years to prince of Persia sands of time.

Windwaker.... If there is any game series i am actually a "fan" of..... Its the Zelda series.. I am trying not to be bias towards the game that is my 3rd favorite game of all time. But just because i think its amazing, does not mean it deserves to be a contender to win such a big award! Thats because i have my opinions.....but this award is not about opinions, its an award that counts "everything", including popularity.
WIndwaker was not the best zelda game, not the most influential, not a real game changer...... Its just another zelda game...... Ocarina of time had put its stamp on ever single 3d zelda game since it came out.... So windwaker, even if its bigger, if it has better graphics and so on.... Its still based off of Ocarina of time.

Ps.... N64 was better then gamecube! even the og xbox was better then the gamecube. Not saying the gamecube was bad, But it was nothing special. Xbox brought the online gaming to the console. Gamecube did not change anything really. Ey, I love gamecube, I still use mine....But its not the best console ever.


Shadow of the Colossus, I never played this, I know it has alot of die hard fanboys, but I see it more as a cult game then anything, It was not a huge game when it came out, but now its pretty well known.
Can't really say it should or should not be here, because i don't know enough about it.


Hl2......... I understand why its nominated, The physics, the graphics.... and the source game engine.
All technical stuff....... But please don't talk to me about story when games like the witcher, dreamfall, the walking dead, to the moon, Neverwinter Nights, max payne, Syberia, bloodlines masquerade and many more came out in this decade.

I finished Hl2 but i took days of breaks between playing it because it was not interesting at all.... I am near the end of episode 2 and its so much better story wise! and i am really enjoying it..........But its not actually the game we are talking about.


Halo..............Thats just your oppinion though, millions of other people will go against you. I am not really a fan of it or fps games for that matter, but i know how much it has done for the gaming world. Its also one of the most, if not the most famous series that started this decade.

Burnout changed the whole crashing thing in racing games! It made fun arcade racing and rough bashing and crashing game play that a lot of games these days are now copying. I think burnout 3 inspired so many games these days, and its probably one of the best racing games ever.

Uncharted, I played 30 mins of this game in total........... I saw why so many people liked it. It felt like playing a hollywood movie! It made you feel like you where in a big budget action adventure movie. It did everything right. It really shows that video games can stand up to big movies, and i know that alot of games in the future will be inspired by what naughty dog did with those games.

nearly every game made this gen has borrowed one or two things from another game. I don't think borrowing little ideas to improve the way a game plays is a bad thing at all..........

Gears and Res4 should both be recognized too in my opinion. not a fan of either myself. But i know they both have changed things for games now.

Did you mean what SHOULD have won all opinions considered?

I for one liked Oblivion and Fallout3 for example. Played both to death. But i just vastly preffered F3. I dont think the fact that Oblivion came first means it is more deserving of the title. I simply didnt enjoy it as much in pretty much every area so couldnt justify voting for it.

I dont think Fallout3 should have won game of the year as a global opinion. I was just staing it would get my personal vote.

Personally i played the Half life games and I did definitely enjoy them but i wasnt blown away. I found the original "Deus Ex" to be a much better FPS of the same era. That should definately have recieved a nomination. Awesome game.

Sure fallout 3 was wayyyy more fun in my opinion..... I was just saying the reason it was made was because of Oblivion. If fallout 3 should be nominated them oblivion should be recognized too.

Deus Ex has changed alot in storytelling and i think i agree with you in this choice........Though i have never played it... I know alot about it.

"I hate some games and am fans of others", yeah that's called having an opinion. And when you play enough games, your opinion is able to hold more water than someone who "just go buy what i see, what i hear and what i know". Especially when trying to rationalize why a committee would pick certain games for a list about the best of a decade. Which is what I was doing. If I had to pick my favorite ten games from that decade it would be alot different. But I understood and agree (for the most part) with the nominations. What you're doing is hiding behind your opinion and trying to pass it off as the end all be all of what constitutes the best games of the decade.

I'm not even going to try to decipher everything else there.

Agree about Deus Ex being better than HL1. Love that game, but I think it may have been released in 99. But HL2 (being as objective as possible) is like a how-to guide on fps design and in general game design. Superbly crafted. Deus Ex had a lot more things going on in it that just shooting. It was more of an rpg and stealth game to me. I probably like it more than either Half Life

It came out in 2000. Same with Thief 2: The Metal Age, which is pretty much the definitive stealth game. I'm at odds as to which Hitman game to pick alongside it.

Ah, gotcha. Misunderstood that there.

And yeah Deus Ex was a phenomenal game. You can pick it up on PC dirt cheap these days aswell. Every gamer should play it.

I'll pick it up soon then. I do enjoy playing older games.....
