I have no problem with guns. I have shot them before. I actually enjoy shooting targets.
But carrying one for self defense is unnecessary.

The only reason some Americans feel the need for guns as defense is because everyone else has one. If very limited people had guns then you wouldn't really need one.

The US has one of, if not the highest, gun fatality rate out of all First World countries after a quick search.

So if that is not caused by the relaxed gun laws then what is it? Something in the water?

I'm only basing this of First world countries because The term "First World" refers to so called developed, capitalist, industrial countries, roughly, a bloc of countries aligned with the United States after World War II, with more or less common political and economic interests: North America, Western Europe, Japan and Australia.

How did you go from making the unsupported statement that the reason why Americans have firearms is because most others have them, to talking about fatality rates? You're full of shit.

Many Americans who own guns say they own them for protection. So that is why I am assuming that if no one else needed guns you probably wouldn't need one yourself to defend yourself.

All I know is if you own a gun here when its at home it must be locked away in a gun safe with the ammunition locked away separately.
You cannot carry it on your person in public unless you require it for your job. If you want to take your gun to a shooting range or a hunting location i think it must be locked away in your car during transport.
I have never heard an average civilian ever say "damn thy was a bad situation, would of ended better if I had a gun with me"

you're basing this argument off your own vague moralities. Congrats, you don't think guns are nice. There are plenty of people who disagree. There is a need for guns in EVERY country in the world. But that doesn't mean every second or third person should be packing.
I personally would like to get a gun licence. Target shooting and hunting would be fun, but that doesn't mean I would carry the gun down to the local store just in case someone trys to steal my wallet.

Yes there is a need for guns, but no I don't think they should be reasonably easy to access and be able to carried anywhere you please.

Doesn't matter what I think, the US is in too deep now. You will never be able to successful change gun laws very much.
