	a surprisingly large number of cancers are caused by viruses. one such example is cervical cancer, caused by HPV. however, all cancer shares the same properties: faster reproduction, and immortality. a sample of live cancer from a woman many decades ago is still used in research. all cells have a built in function which serves to kill the cell whenever the DNA is damaged. a protein called P53 is responsible for this. a mutation of this protein will stop it from working, and cancer begins to develop. half of all known cancers happen because of this protein. -------------------
