Dentist + Hole in tooth + Decay = Scary

So a few months back I went skating and fell, felt a strange pain in my tooth, turned out I somehow got a hole in the upper/middle portion of one of my upper front teeth (could be a small hole / indentation in the one next to it, I never got a mirror to look at it). For approximately one week, maybe two or three I can't really remember, that tooth was sensitive to anything even slightly cold, but I haven't had any sensitivity or pain regarding this tooth since then. It's been like 3 or 4 months now and I'm about to go back to the dentist and of course I'm feeling all sorts of anxiety and fear, head is full of what-if scenarios and I'm not too excited about this whole thing.

Now, as I said this tooth hasn't had ANY problems since the time it was sensitive those months ago. With that said, another completely separate tooth has white stuff on it and I googled around a bit and found out this white stuff is actually tooth decay. Again, this tooth has literally no pain as well and I don't think I've had any problems with sensitivity. So therefore I have two questions.

1) For the tooth with the hole in it and NO pain / problems that I'm aware of, what procedures might the dentist decide to do? My hope is they'll just decide to fill it up and let it be that, my fear is that there WILL be some kind of infection or cavity in there and they might have to do something along the lines of a root canal. Any ideas?

2) For the tooth with white stuff on it, I still have a while before I'm getting my dental check up, do you guys think that because it seems that I've noticed the decay at its "early stage" and if I brush regularly (two-three times a day) and take this, it could result in me not having any needed procedure for this situation?

Even if there's no sign of tooth decay what so ever? Why would they need to drill if there's no decay?

Hmm, is this an assumption because there's a hole in my tooth causing exposure for 4 months (don't know how deep the tooth is, for all I know it's only half way through the first layer)? I'm sure it's possible to have a hole in your tooth without any decay. Bah I'm so worked up over this I'm just trying to make it sound like tooth decay isn't an option when it most certainly could be ='(.

The dental check up isn't for a week or so, so I'll post back here then letting ya'll know what happened, even if no one cares, this is my official dental-blog-spot-thread.

And sucks for your dad, does he actually get the procedures or does he avoid the dentist? My father has literally every problem in the world with his teeth and he doesn't even brush them, same with my mom sort of, they take pills all of the time and never go to the dentist due to fear.

Dental procedures aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. If your tooth is already decaying, you can't get rid of that on your own. If you're still worried after your appointment, ask your dentist about fluoride rinses. I recall using something a while back called phos-fluor, because my tongue piercing damaged the enamel on my teeth.

If it was infected, you really would've noticed it earlier.

Not necessarily, what if it was just recently infected and it's in the early stages where there's not much way to tell it's infected? I try to sort of tap the hole with my tongue and can't really feel any pain so hopefully the nerve being exposed isn't an option. And if the nerve was dead, wouldn't I not be able to feel anything on my tooth, and wouldn't it discolor? I can definitely feel when objects hit the tooth (not that it hurts, I just feel the vibration, the nerve responding I suppose) and the tooth isn't discolored in any area that I can tell.

The real D-Day (Disembarkation Day) was earlier this month.

Hope it all goes well though man. Glad that you're taking a bit better care in regards to dental hygiene, and after the appointment, regardless of the results, I hope you'll continue with this change.

I remember that time like half of neo posted in a thread about how they didn't brush their teeth and now someones complaining their teeth are shitty ahuhu :L

Anyway yeah for your hole you'll probably just get a filling and a cleaning (i think. Never had tooth decay so). If there's nerve damage you'll probably need something more scary mind

Gosh i've not been to the dentist in like 2 years it's so expensive ;_; pretty sure i need a filling right now too. IT'S GONNA COST SO MUCH sad
