Think it's only happened to me a couple of times. I probably just assumed I'd been tied up and didn't worry about it.

In a nutshell.its your brain telling you it dosent want to do anything and that you should go back to sleep.

This has happened to me a few times. Not fun. What's worse is when you hallucinate a bit when it happens. If you awaken and find yourself unable to move, it's best to keep your eyes closed until you're able to get up. Everything's going to be blurry anyway. You may panic a bit and fear you'll never be able to move again, but you will. Try to remember that and not get hysterical. The best way to make it wear off faster is to continually try to move. It may get tiresome after only several failed attempts, but keep it up. And try to focus on one limb. Depending on what side I'm laying on, I try to move my free arm. There have been times when I could swing that arm around somewhat freely though it felt like it weighed a ton, but the rest of me was immobile. Continuously moving that arm helped the rest of me regain consciousness faster.

And just giving up and going back to sleep won't make it any easier when you wake up again later. You'll have to contend with the condition every time. Best to deal with it immediately and get out of bed as soon as possible. The additional sleep won't even make you feel more rested, and can even make it harder to get up the next time.

Falling in the floor can either jolt you fully awake or just put you in a painful position; 50/50 chance there. I always take my chance on the floor, but rarely make it down there.

Thinking about it before going to bed makes it more likely to happen, in my experience. Try not to think about it.

Yeah, exactly my thoughts. Those things can be scary as hell! I think they are responsible for a lot(not all) "ghost" encounters.

I usually have them while falling asleep, not waking up.

I have had this problem on and off my whole life. the first time it happened i was a young kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old. It lasted so long i had convinced myself i was dead and this was me having been burried.

I was borderline tramatised by it. Nowadays i get it maybe once or twice a year and am well used to it. I just try to go back to sleep, thats the best thign to do. It doesnt bother me so much anymore. I have never hallucenated whilst suffering this other than once when i was taking drugs.

Advice: If you suffer from this then do not take ecstacyor MDMA. It makes it much worse in both duration and experience.

This happens to me sometimes. It takes me a few seconds to figure out what just happened. I would love to know what causes it.

I also get the falling sensation. Sometimes I kick the wall really hard, then wake up (this is more like the jolting thing).
