One of the only times I was ever spanked was pretty much to teach me to not hit someone; if I slapped out at my parents in frustration (not hard, I was maybe five or six), I'd get a slap round the back of the leg with the sentence, "You don't like being hit, so don't hit other people." I didn't need much punishment as a kid, but I knew where the boundaries were and what the consequences would be if I pushed them. Granted, the consequences would be entirely different now that I'm far older, but I have too much respect for my parents to push them so far.

My mum hit me quite a fair bit when I was young. Mainly if I was running around and making noise in public or if I broke something in the house. It was a great deterrent and it has helped me with my behaviour quite a lot. I would say my behaviour in school was fairly good; a lot better than some of my friends whose parents never hit them.



This was how I was smacked and I observe that the parents at my church do the same to their little 'uns if they misbehave (they get verbal warnings first).

I am strongly for it and I will definitely hit my children, if it remains legal to do so in the country I live in. one day they will grow up and hit you back.

I think I get your joke. This thread is about little kids so you're using this liberty to act like one?

I'd drop kick a kid without blinking(well maybe from the blood flying at me) because they are spoiled little shits these days. Gone are the times when you were incouraged to give a kid a good whoopin if he tried to make a scene in public. You wouldn't have these Duty Bops playing little shits if the parents disciplined their demon childs.

If a kid talked shit in my face like they do in Duty Bops, he'd get an RKO/Stunner/Brogue Kick faster than he could pee himself.

I'm not saying all kids need to be hit, because there are those that were raised right and they never needed it, but parents are lazy nowadays.

Just the other day my little brother started screaming like a psychotic shit and throwing things about because he got whooped in Transformers. He got piledrived, twice.

Sorry but that man's quote holds poor logic.

You can be arrested and sued for hitting another adult... that isn't under your jurisdiction. Good comparison there, Starsky.

Bear in mind this is coming from someone who isn't really feeling to hit his kids when he gets any, but had his fair share as a kid. I hope what this guy means by hitting is beating, as in maiming your kid with welts and bruises to show for it. Then there would be some modicum of sense here. Also, that article is bullshit. The real truth is there are both good and bad sides for hitting your child and not hitting him. When it tells you "bad side effects" blah blah, it only tells you half of the story.

Fact is scaring a kid straight by showing you COULD beat them can go a long way through certain kids. Why am I telling you this if I'm against physically disciplining my future offspring? Because I've been at the other end of it and I was raised well. My mom beat my cousins(who lived with us for years) tenfold more then she beat me, and by proxy that made me learn right quick to behave and not cross my mom's bad side. My dad who didn't live with us is a pacifist, and I sort of hold that from my old man. But then again, if I do get kids my mind might change. I do have the impatient side of my mom too.
