Hitting Children

Hitting a child is a pretty respectable approach in terms of punishment imo.

Children used to get hit all the time. That generation is far better than the generation now.

I see nothing wrong with hitting kids as long as you don't whip them or beat them to a pulp and explain why you hit them. Sometimes actions speak louder than words.

Discounting the sarcasm, yes, he probably would. It leaves an actual impression in their minds and serves as a VERY GOOD deterrent for not doing something they now know is wrong again. Just "telling them off" isn't anywhere near sufficient because it's easy to ignore since they most likely don't want to hear it in the first place.

Easy to ignore? Kids hold what their parents say in regard and recognize them as an authority. If what you were talking about was even remotely correct, then kids would never listen to anyone and would basically be anarchists. That isn't the case, as we all know, as kids do listen to their parents.

If kids didn't want to go to school on a certain day, you wouldn't beat or hit them to force them to go. You would tell them that he or she has to go and they would begrudgingly go after some goading. They can ignore it all they want to, they'll still go and listen- which is the point.

When I was a kid, I HATED when my parents would take a belt to my ass when I messed up. Now that I'm older, I'm glad they did, because it taught me to respect them, follow rules, and not be a little shithead. I know tha if they didn't punish me like that, I would have become a little shit. I like to think of myself as a well brought-up kid because my parents weren't scared to punish me.
