Only thing required skill in that game was having good ping, and ability to control recoil. Only reason why 1.6 got so huge was because casual kiddies got tired of being raped on Quake 3. 	I played Counterstrike Source. Too many damn hackers, their screen shaking around back and forth back and forth then suddenly BAM BAM BAM 3 headshots against 3 opponents. The gameplay wasn't varied enough. Same maps, same old tactics, same old veteran player who destroys an entire team all on his own. I prefer Valve's TF2, which in my opinion, is the greatest FPS...EVERRRRRR Edit: ALTHOUGH, those surfing servers were damn fun! Hell, Valve should integrate that, and make a new game out of that surfing glitch thing. It was fun as hell zipping around on ramps and flying into the air. I was almost able to get over the fact that as soon as I get to the end of that ramp I'd be dead, headshotted by some hacker, because those ramps were fun.

I'd agree with you if by vanilla we mean "When pyro finally got the bleeping airblast" Also the rocket launcher didn't have like a 8 shot clip. -------------------
