Piss off, Son.

So there's this program at my Son's school called "Powerschool". It's basically his report card updated every day on the internet, who only me, my son, and his teachers have access to. This being said, it leaves for me a nightmare. Yeah, you're thinking, "sweet, now I can help steer my son's future as soon as problems are detected instead of only finding out after it is too late to make a difference!" The thing is, like 95% of all high school kids, he's more interested in the now rather than the future. Every time my Son forgets to do an assignment or bombs tests, I restrict his privileges since those are his constant reward for doing well. I also remind him that he can log into this software to see if he forgot about any assignments or any upcoming tests to study for! It's just downright stressful. I'm only human you know? I'm afraid that with unskilled immigrants taking more and more of our jobs, that unless my Son is in the top 10 percentile of his class, then he will only amount to a fast food clerk or janitor (no offense to fast food clerks or janitors... but you should have done your damn homework and focused less on hanging out with buds or partying). If I become too lenient, then he won't be able to afford the lifestyle that he has grown accustomed to as a child. When I try to explain all of this to him, he wont hear it, and then proceeds to listen to his iTunes on his 5th generation iPod that I gave to him as punishment for good grades. Blocks me out or tells me to shut up. It really does suck. I love my Son but this is really pissing me off. $60,000 a year go to his food, shelter, name brand clothing, dental care, medical care, iTunes, xBox, PS3, Wii, Netflix, Disneyland, Christmases, Birthdays.... but as soon as I restrict just ONE thing... all of that goes right out the window and now I'm captain Hitler on the Starship Bin Laden! The worst part is, when I do reward him when he gets over a slump, he doesn't even realize it or thank me. "Dad, it's only my 12th F this year, I'll get a random A at some point. Surely one A at the end will fix everything, sheesh why are you such a whip cracker." "Oh it's fine Son, I'm sure that Hardees won't judge you for your F's and the High School will let you decide which order to clean the toilets as a custodian reward after you prove to them you are responsible." I suggest anyone in this situation actually talk to their Dad and try not to get emotional, but just talk it out like adults. The more you act like an adult, the more you will be treated like one.


Before jumping to a quick conclusion... consider that reversing a situation is a good way to show another point of view. Also consider that everything I said is actually true, and that as a Dad in the reverse situation as "Dave", I can comment on the other side of the story with insight that could be helpful in helping someone on the other side understand what a Parent thinks when in the same situation.

And I attempted to illustrate the other side of a point through satire, not just make fun of the original.
