Stephanie Meyer {Twlight) is Abandoning Vampires for Aliens

New Moon" hits theaters this week, and tweenage fans are positively beside themselves with bloodthirsty anticipation. Stephanie Meyer, on the other hand, is kind of over the whole vampire thing.

The creator of the "Twilight" series, has hinted that there may never be a fifth book to the series. Which is horrible news for millions of tweens everywhere, as it means that once they buy their tickets to "Breaking Dawn," they'll be left without a reason to live. With the exception of the occasional paparazzi shot of Robert Pattinson slinking out of a bar with Kristen Stewart (who he's definitely not dating).

In bonus footage from her appearance on "Oprah" Friday, Meyer said, "I can't answer that," when asked if there could be a fifth book in the series. Said Meyer, "The way I write is... it's what makes me happy. I can't write when I feel like people are looking over my shoulder. So I have to tell myself that this book I'm not going to publish. It's only for me, it's never going to leave my computer and I have to really believe that to be able to work on it."

(Considering she's made roughly a zillion dollars from the "Twilight" series, Meyer could literally never have another book leave her computer and be a-okay. But considering she's got the magic touch, we don't think that's going to happen.)

Meyer continued, "I might do something completely different - I've got to cleanse the palette. I might come back to it. I did envision it as a longer series, but I wrapped up 'Breaking Dawn' in a way that I felt satisfied with."

She also admitted to feeling "a little burnt out" on vampires (we hear that), and is looking forward to writing about aliens. She recently wrote a novel about aliens called "The Host," and hopes to turn it into a trilogy. Said Meyer, "I had grown a lot as a writer by the time I got around to writing it. I think it's better. 'Twilight'... I was so raw. I could do it so much better right now. I'd love to go back and rewrite that one and do a director's cut."

So take heart, ladies. If you loved Robert Pattinson pale and pasty, there's no reason to believe you couldn't also love him painted alien-green and speaking in made-up alien talk.

When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.
