I don't know which I feel more of: anger that somebody would assault a war veteran, or a twisted sense of irony in that Veterans/Remembrance Day was only 72 hours ago.

Why is it important that he's a veteran? Will the criminals get a worse sentance because he is? Honestly, I don't think that should be taken into account at all. A murder is a murder. It doesn't matter what the person's past or present occupation is. But I agree that it was a brutal thing to do. Especially to a senior.

Usually I'm not one to flip a shit over a random incident like that towards someone I don't know but you just don't *bleep* with a veteran man. No matter how *bleep*ed up you are in the head, there's still a line with veterans on the other side and you just don't cross it.
