Lest we forget

So today at 11:00AM (35 minutes ago), 11/10/2009, you were supposed to have a 2 minutes silence to remember those who were in the wars. How many of you actually did so?

I had just finished my lecture at 10:45AM and needed a book for the following week, so I walked into town to get it. I decided to walk past the church (as it's a quicker route), and when I got there I saw a huge crowd. Then it occured to me that it was the memorial, so I stopped to pay my respects. After they finished the vet's parade, I walked over to one of the guys who was on his own and shook his hand and had a quick chat with him, and I thanked him. It filled me with so much pride to be talking to a veteran of WW2 from the British army.

What did you lot do?

re: Lest we forget

About 10 hours ago, we paused for two minutes silence, even though the lady on the loudspeaker only said one.
After it had finished, the class slowly began to talk again.

I had two minutes silence when walking through town. It was pretty emotional to be fair. A very proud day for us, but a sad one for those who have perished.

Remember them guys.

Because I work for the MoD they take the 2 minutes silence very seriously.

I browsed Neo in silence for 2 minutes.

Haha, same. I had enough two minute silences to last me a life time.

I live in US and we don't have the two minutes silence here. I also forgot, even though I've been talking to a couple people about it this week.

re: Lest we forget

Only had a one minute silence I believe.

Stupid teacher?

One girl s*bleep*ed and that set off a poor girl, who laughs at everything. She had a small essay to write as a punishment on the topic of "What I should have done and why this silence was important."

The girl who s*bleep*ed said "She sneezed". Oh, you really sneeze for over a minute. :rolleyes

re: Lest we forget

Yeah I did take my 2 minutes in silence. People gave their LIVES for us, we should be able to give them 2 minutes of our time. It was a very sad two minutes for me. Just think about yourself in war, your friends are all dead and your just barely alive. Its freakin scary

re: Lest we forget

Yeah, I stopped, but to be honest, Rememberance Day isn't our 'big day' (for want of a better word) in Australia, we usually have our big parades and everything on ANZAC Day.
