Cigarettes are laced with chemicals, none of which make it into shisha (hookah tobacco). Yes, it does yield nicotine but they're considerably small amounts even compared to one or two cigarettes. Cigarettes also produce tar which does sustainable damage to lung tissue on top of other things, which smoking hookah doesn't. For tar to produce the tobacco needs to be burnt which I think requires upwards of 700 degrees Fahrenheit, or the equivalent of a steady flame. Shisha from a hookah takes on indirect heat from charcoal and doesn't actually burn - it 'bakes' - somewhere around 300 to 400 Fahrenheit.

The only comparative argument lies in the fact that a hookah delivers much, much more smoke by volume. An average 20 or so minute hookah session yields about the same smoke volume as 15 to 20 cigarettes. The smoke isn't as harmful, but it is still smoke.

I'm never going to say that smoking hookah is harmless, because how is smoking anything going to be considered healthy? But it's mildly safer than cigarette smoking as far as deterioration and damages go.

Humor and sarcasm have their place just as intelligent discussion also has its place. Not all threads in Loungin' are designed to house anything informative or intelligent - nor do they have any need to.

And is that an accusation I smell? Being informed about drugs and substance abuse is a lot better than being misinformed. And if you're insinuating in any way - not to say you are - that people who use drugs are bad or immature people, well that's just stupid. Most of the open minded and intelligible people I've met have done their fair share of drugs. It's all a mature of how you approach it and how reasonable you are. Tripping acid means you're, technically speaking, breaking the law. It doesn't mean you're an absent minded idiot.

btw, smooking hookah isn't illegal in any way, unless you're a minor. It's not like he's asking us how to cut down cocaine or asking if it's advisable to shoot black tar.
