1. It was only a temporary solution to growing tensions between the North and the South.

2. California would be admitted to the Union as a free state, tipping Congressional balance in favor of free states. Also, the new Fugitive Slave Act gave Southern hunting parties searching for escaping slaves more free reign in the North. Northerners didn't want their states turned into hunting grounds with Southerners coming up and "reclaiming escaped slaves."

3. It just showed how the tensions between the North and South over the issue of slavery could be turned into violence.

4. The South seceded after Abraham Lincoln was elected president. He ran on a pro-abolition and free-soil platform, angering Southerners who saw that as a violation of states rights.

1. The Missouri Compromise was made before the annexing of Texas, so the South got only Arkansas as a slave state, while the North had the rest of the Louisiana Purchase land as free states.

The Missouri Compromise and The Compromise of 1850 really did not lead to the Civil War, in the sense that it caused it. The real cause was the Dred Scott decision by the Supreme Court, which effectively nullified the compromises, the last barriers against the war.

Bleeding Kansas set the standard for physical violence between partisan idealists over the issue of slavery. John Brown initially led the anti-slavery militia in Bleeding Kansas (if I recall correctly). The start of this militia led to the raid on Harper's Ferry, Virginia, also by John Brown. He was killed by the military in the small battle. His death sparked waves of polar emotions through the country; Northerners painted him as a martyr, while Southerners praised his death and claimed victory.

If you don't know the significance of the Southern states seceding, then you are a dumbass.

I'm starting to get a feeling that Rome is Southern and openly denying it.

I'm right with most of them except Bleeding Kansas and the Compromises, apparently.

I still need like a 2 sentence significance on Bleeding Kansas and how it lead to the civil war.

Same with the two compromises, without adding the definition/what it is in ANY way.

Also just making sure; when Lincoln and Douglas had their debates, were they fighting for Senator or Governer?
