I think it's common knowledge that when a guy sleeps around, he's seen as a 'legend' in his friend's eyes but when a girl sleeps around, she's seen and labeled as a slut.

As a liberal feminist, I find this double standard incredibly harsh and disgraceful. Why are girls punished for doing something, when guys are praised for doing that exact same thing?

Where do you think this double standard comes from and do you think it's right?

Because (most) guys see it this way: the more women you sleep with - the more man-points you receive. (I am not one of these. )

And they see girls who sleep with lots of guys as being "easy" and whore-like.

I realise it's a stereotype but personally I only think of a girl as a slut if she acts and dresses really slutty every time she goes out. A girl can sleep around if she wants and if she maintains a bit of class about her I won't think of her as a slut.

I was talking about this with a friend the other day. It's probably because men are pigs.

Okay, joking aside, it's probably because women are SUPPOSED to be seen as pure and innocent and stuff like that, while guys, on the other hand, are to be seen as the exact opposite. It is a double standard, and I see a guy just as much a slut as a girl if they sleep around, but that's just me.

When I'm at a party and see girls dressed in skimpy outfits (although nice to look at) I just think she's a skank. Especially when they try and score with some guys while being inhebriated.

Girls are the ones who have to play hard to get. If they're easy, I mean.. yeah on a whim they'd be labeled whores, in society. But it's not all in that, there's also the personality which amounts to it and whatnot.

For the guys though, that shit's in our hormones. So when we get some, I guess it's just looked at as congratulatory.

the double standard is due to biology and social expectations of males. ever noticed why the word "wanker" is so offensive? it implies that you are so low, you cannot get any girl, thus you refer to autosexuality to fulfill your needs.

I really do not know why people care so much about sex.

Its because girls care about being called these names and having rumours spread about them. If you called a guy a manwhore/slut he would probably just ignore it and forget a few minutes later, but girls go on about it and tell all their friends and be upset that everyone thinks they are a slut.

Because if you're a guy, it's hard to get girls to have sex with you. But if you're a girl, it's easy to get guys to have sex with you because they all already want to.

I'm sorry if it sounds sexist, but I was watching a Chris Rock special and he told it like it is. And I agree with him. It's harder for guys to get action than it is for girls. It's easy for girls to turn down sex because somebody is always offering it to them.

So if a guy manages to sleep around, that's a pretty difficult feat, so he's seen as a champ. But if a girl sleeps around, that's not a hard thing to do, so she's seen as someone who takes advantage of guys.

Now I'm not saying it's RIGHT to see things like that, but that's just how it IS. Girls never approach guys with stupid pick-up lines, hoping to get laid. It's the guy who does that. The girls at bars and clubs just sit there waiting for guys to flock like sheep. Sometimes they don't even pick anybody.

So personally, I believe in the current standard that a guy who can actually sleep around with girls, is "the man". But a girl who does that is a "ho".

Sex isn't the only thing with double standards. There are plenty of things a girl can get praised for that a guy can't. Such as wearing a mini-skirt, or NOT taking more than 10 minutes at the mall. A guy who wears a mini-skirt gets the crap beaten out of him, and a guy who takes only 10 minutes at a mall is just being a guy.

There are double-standards for all kinds of things. And I believe in many of those double-standards, under the logic posted in the paragraph above. It's easy for most girls to get sex, but it's hard for most guys. So of course it's a feat for a guy to get it on all the time. It's hard enough for a guy to do it ONCE. But then I DO see it as being a "ho" in the case of girls, because it's easy for a girl to do it all she wants to.

I'm sick of the term "double standard". Guys and girls ARE different. It's in the DNA. Guys have a higher sex drive than girls. So they hit on girls more often than girls hit on guys. A LOT more often.
