MS DSS80 Control Speaker Cable Wiring Info

I believe that the plug on the Microsoft DSS80 control satellite speaker is a 4-pin mini-DIN "s-video" plug. It is not the same as the PS2 (mouse) plug. The plastic guide pin on the DSS80 plug is located on the opposite side (and oriented differently) from that on the PS2 plug. Also, the PS2 plug has six pins while the DSS80 has only four.

The pins on the DSS80 plug are connected to the following wires: with the index mark (labeled "B") at 12 o'clock, the pin at 2 o'clock connects to the black wire (speaker ground); the pin at 4 o'clock connects to the red wire (speaker hot); the pin at 8 o'clock connects to the yellow wire; the pin at 10 o'clock connects to the blue wire; and the ground sheath connects to the white wire. If you bypass the plug and wire the cable directly to the subwoofer, remember to mirror these connections.

The subwoofer and satellite speaker are both held together with Torx #10 screws.

Thank you Paul Turgeon for explaining how to wire the right speaker. You saved my dss80 from being junked. I wired it direct into the circuit board after removing s-video connector on circuit board and the s-video plug from right speaker wire.
It's information like yours which makes the internet a fantastic tool for people who like to fix things.

just cleaning out some old bookmark, and found this thread. I used it years ago and repaired this plug/wire on my DSS80 and still working, was so thankful to have someone take the time to explain and clearly how to fix it. I have passed on some tips because of this/my first experence with using info on web to fix something. Thanks again to all
