Hello all. I didn't see this topic when browsing through the threads, but with 15+ pages of threads, I could have missed something, so please excuse me if this is repetitious.

Anyway, it should be relatively common knowledge that dodging red shells is really no problem with a bit of practice and finesse. But I wanted to discuss methods by which to dodge Blue Spiny shells - much more difficult. I know it can be done, I've seen it happen, I've done it myself. But more often than not - its a fluke. Can it be done intentionally on a consistent basis?

No. It only happens if you are lucky, like the time I was coming first, then an opponent zipped past me with a mushroom and a spiny shell hit him. It all comes down to luck.

Red shells are easy to dodge.

No not really. As that course is one with the most obsticles and curvy sides ever. And you can easily jus throw a shell behind you to counter or a banana.

That won't work with Blue Shells, BK7.

I say if you round a corner just as the Blue Shell hovers at you, it'll miss.

I agree - red shells can be dodged relatively easily with practice and nimble maneuvering. Blue shells are nearly impossible to dodge - but it CAN be done from what I've seen. I've seen the blue shell dodged a few times at least - just in casual game play. Here are some Examples, granted the first two aren't technically "dodging":

1) Mushroom city - Blue shell coming up on me from behind, I threw a bomb ahead of me, the blue shell chased the bomb instead.

2) Mushroom Bridge - Just before the blue shell reached me, a bomb car exploded behind me, detonating the blue shell before it could hit me.

3) Waluigi Stadium - player two in first place, I threw a blue shell, just before the shell hit her, P2 jumped a ramp with a mushroom, turning in the air... blue shell flew right past and detonated into the wall.

4) Wario Coliseum - player two in first place, entering the circular area with the jump in the center just before the final stretch to the finish. I threw a blue shell, P2 turned with drift, slammed on the brakes, then finished drift with turbo boost and relased as shell approached, and the blue shell slammed into the wall, missing P2 completely! This happened right in front of me and it was the most impressive show that finally convinced me the blue shell can be dodged intentionally. Who else has a story?

To the person who said spiny shell dodging is just luck:You are dead wrong.I read somewhere back in another forum in a MKDD board saying a way to dodge the blue shell is to when you see the blue shell coming start powersliding.When you see it come to view Mini turbo away.This will take some practice.

That's exactly what I do to avoid a blue shell.

That's not only with the spiny shell, but with the red shell too.

Yeah, Spiny Shells are almost impossible to dodge. I have used drift and turboed. Spiny Shell just came after the boost and bang! There I go!

You can dodge a spuny shell, but it doesn´t in your way. Just race off the track.

getting hit by one takes less time then suiciding.
