re: Folding @ Home

I started a thread in loungin to hopefully get more people to join.

I now have it running on 3 computers. I installed it on my parents desktop, and our laptop.

My computer: 9660/20,000
Parents comptuer (aka #2): Just started the folding process, and it looks to be 2,000 frames
Laptop (aka #3): same as the second computer.

I have #2 and 3 running at around 75%, and mines still at 100%.

re: Folding @ Home

You can run it. I was unable to find any minimum requirements so it just uses a percentage of what you have to offer.

Do you need a good ISP? Cuz I only have AOL dial-up right now.

re: Folding @ Home

It only uses the internet to upload and downloaded the work unit. The whole time its folding, it just uses the processor.

re: Folding @ Home

Im running it with a P4 @ 3.4Ghz, socket 775LGA,

Folding @ 15s/frame

Noticed that BF2142 doesn't like it at all, unless I quit the Folding. Not sure what else might not agree, haven't tried Halo, or CS:S yet. I imagine I could tweak around with it.

re: Folding @ Home

I was hitting 13s/frame when I wasn't at my computer, and it showed 14s/frame when I was using it to browse the web and play music.

I wonder how it would have liked my old clock speeds of 2.62ghz.

EDIT: Now my new WU is 5s/frame. I'd like to know what kind of calculations they are running.

re: Folding @ Home

I'm not sure what the s/f is based off of. I think it has to do with the size of the work unit because others seem to be getting varied sizes of WUs and thus far I've only gotten 5000 with a consistent 21s/frame.

That my friend is your computer being a bit slow in closing the windows start menu.

Look at the line... where it finishes.. up the top. Look to the left, there should be a line there... it's only small and it's a bit of a curve.

If you want more proof, just open your start menu, it'll fit the lines perfectly...

To get rid of it.. just shut down your computer and turn it back on... let enough time for the monitor to switch off properlly before restart..

A1~ Please use a thumbnail for anything over 600hx800w

re: Folding @ Home

Im wondering that the s/f speed is because the larger W/U seem to move quicker, where the smaller ones are a tad slower(I'm only on the 3rd one, cant say fo sho), and I think that might be due to the deadline for that W/U, which I think you can manipulate under the advanced tab in the configuration settings. I guess if you set it to standard, they might crank out, or if you set it to deadline-less, they might be more forgiving to cpu priorities, and fold on more flexible terms.-----I dunno----Im gonna mess around with it.

The whole thing is interesting as hell. Kinda nice to play a hand in curing disease, and who'da thunk with a 'puter?

LOL--funny with the line there^^^^ I thought the same thing with the start menu.

re: Folding @ Home

I was 4600/5000 and I started to install a new game(Blazing Angels). During that install the DX installer started to hit error after error, the game installer quit responding, FF encountered a problem and the whole thing ended in an nF4 BSOD after about 7 program errors...my first in months.

Now I'm back on that same work unit at 500/5000. The damn thing reset on me. It's not supposed to do that. I have it checked to make saves every 30 minutes.
