Did anyone else notice how the PS3s are starting to take over Neoseeker's charts?

Count me in with my ATI X1950PRO as well as my wifes Athlon X2 4400+. I just wish there were a way to make use of the extra cores! Anyway, I will be participating under the username Psycho0124.

re: Folding @ Home

Hey right on. They released a SMP Beta version not too long ago. Last time I read up on the folding@home project, they didn't seem to confident that they could ever get a multithreaded version running correctly. Leave it to the Stanford geeks to get it running I guess!

I cant believe how far us Neoseekers have gotten in terms of rank. It's so amazing being ranked 2116 of 69442!

Weird.. The team page shows I have completed 29 work units and yet I still have zero points. I have been running the GPU client on my X1950PRO and the SMP client on my wifes Amd Athlon 64 X2 4400+ for about 20 hours strait (heat is an issue with my local climate).

There's another person on the team with the same issue. It's probably a glitch with the video card client.

re: Folding @ Home

Some of those WUs must be from the SMP client tho. Why would this one fail to acrue my pts as well? I saw a post not too long ago that mentioned something similar to this..
From http://www.spreadthefox.net/cs/node/55
This was in reference to another user with a very high completed WU count and zero points.

Folks at folding community have explained this. It seems that his PC was downloading WUs, calculating them with junk data really fast, and returning them again. He'll then not receive any points, causing situations like this. He had 0.1 point though.
Neither of my machines are overclocked at all and I am certainly doing nothing to cause this intentionally. Surely theres another explaination for this..?

re: Folding @ Home

The x1950 cards will only work with a specific few ATI drivers. Not every ATI driver will successfully do the folding.

re: Folding @ Home

That is true but the version 7.5 Catalyst driver has been confirmed to be working as per this thread:

http://forum.folding-community.org/ftopic20156.html

quote
The new Catalyst drivers released 2007/05/31, version 7.5 (8.38) appear to work successfully with the GPU client.

The clients will work as expected with the new drivers.

...

Folding performance appears to have increased over catalyst 7.4 and seems to be similar to that of catalyst 7.2

The following versions of Catalyst are known to work with the GPU client:

* 6.5
* 6.10 - 6.11
* 7.2 - 7.5

The GPU client will work with these drivers with a significant performance hit:

* 6.6
* 6.7

The following drivers do not work at all with the GPU client:

* 6.8
* 6.9
* 6.12
* 7.1

Tested with X1900XT 256 on Windows XP 32bit
I guess ill just run the SMP version on both machines for now.

re: Folding @ Home

I was actually using the 6.5 version for a while (as the GPU folding FAQ suggests it). The first 7 WUs I completed were with that version. I updated to the 7.5 and still had the same problems. I even tried the 6.1 BETA drivers which are supposed to specifically support the X1950 to no avail. Im starting to think that my GPU may be the problem as I have noticed a few EUEs (temps are relatively cool during processing (around 51'C) but the card can get a little moody sometimes during heavy gaming (occasionally renders corrupted textures in games). Do you think getting the GPU client working correctly would be preferable to just running the 2 CPUs?

UPDATE: I installed the 6.1 BETA drivers only (no CCC) and no more EUEs. I checked the log file and discovered that all the WUs I was recieveing were being sent back with little or no work being done. I found that this is called "WU Trashing" and explains my total lack of points. The others on our team with high WU counts and relatively low points should check their log files for the following error:

quote
[00:33:42] Folding@home Core Shutdown: EARLY_UNIT_END
[00:33:45] CoreStatus = 72 (114)
[00:33:45] Sending work to server
With the new drivers, I am getting about 7 and a half to 8 minute frames and no trashed work units! I guess shopping around and trying several drivers really can do the trick. Turns out the CCC might just have been the troublemaker..

re: Folding @ Home

Sorry for the double post but I figured this would be worthwhile. I noticed that the CPU usage was fairly light while the GPU client was running so I decided to run a little experiment. I first tried running the (console only) version of the SMP client along with the GPU client but noticed the frame time jumped up to around 20 or 30 minutes (up from 8).

Then I gave the single core client and the GPU client a shot and noticed the frame times dropped back to normal. I set affinity on the GPU client for core0 and set affinity for the CPU client to core1 and its folding like a champ. The GPU temp is just below the 2 core temps in the tray.
