Building a Computer - I have ideas... i just need them run through

... oh yeah.. and i also have a few basic questions

I would like to try to compile a list of parts for a computer...
My current laptop is dead (almost) and i may be aloud to have a new computer, if so they are willing to put 1 and a half grand aussie to it. But i may be able to get up to 2 grand off them,.. i'll probably have to contribute a bit too. But first i need a list...

Use: I'll use it for storing photos (i love photography and have a really nice camera), doing work for school/uni (when i get there.. two more years), a tiny bit of video and animation (school has an academic thing on flash and dreamweaver.. so i get them free on comps i use for school because i use them for school).. and some gaming (battlefield II, etc...)

Price Range: Up to 2 grand aussie, thats 1,536.57 US.. make that 1500 for convenience...

Places: I know off Scorptec.com.au and centrecom.com.au , i'm willing to get parts of either, and i'm also happy to get then off other sites.. if u tell me the sites...

Now to the Computer...

CPU: I want to be able to upgrade... and it seems i have to choose AMD or Intel... and if i choose one then it'll cost a bit (for a new motherboard) to change.. so i need something with good cost, power and also i don't want to end up down...
Aparently there is in AMD, 754, 939, 940 and AM2, while in Intel there is 479, 771, 775 and XEON or something...

Firstly i would just like to no what socket you would recommend and if you could name a few types that would fit with the socket (i.e. operons, Athlons, Pentiums etc...)

I'm getting tired of saying this, but for 180 dollars you can get a core 2 duo e6300, which grealty outperforms the ~170 dollar Athlon X2 3800+

140 dollars for a DS3.

Just out of interest... why do you say this... like, whats the step down and the step up???

i can't find a C2D e6300 for 180...

i found a site about motherboard's which can go with it... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193587 ... would you agree with it?

I have been able to find:

and i couldn't find an e36600 on centrecom.com.au ... or on scorptec.com.au ... so can someone suggest a site or another core???

i'll make this short... i've already typed this thing out for 20 minutes... (twice) and both times i clicked x on this tab........ its anyoing... i'm still getting used to FF 2.0... i prefer FF 1.5...

that $887.70 ... so almost at my halfway point to my max....

i probably will OC my cpu and maby GPU.. so i just need ram which will go nicely... i don't need ultra extreme pc10000000 ddr600 ultra ram which is to make my CPU look like crap....

for the cases, i have seen several nice cases.... some are more expensive due to their PSU... for example there were some cooler master ones... there was one for like $114 and another for $101... would you trust their PSU's?

for the mouse and keyboard and stuff... thier was a logitec mx5000 laser desktop and a MX3000 laser desktop... one is more expensive.. which one would you suggest?
