Log in to remove this sponsored message PSU: Raidmax 530W modular (Yep. Surprised it hasn't killed me in my sleep yet.) MoBo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz GPU: Radeon HD 5670 RAM: 12GB DDR3 Monitor: A crappy Dell from 7 years ago that clearly needs upgrading. Yep. I'd like to play the newest games and the proverbial Crysis 3, TES:O, etc. with blackhole-in-your-monitor settings while retaining at least some of my current parts. I was looking to get a hexacore, perhaps. A little overkill for gaming, but necessary for the massive job I'm taking this year that has me using 3DS Max, Maya, AfterFX, SolidWorks, Soundbooth, FL Studio, and 2-3 of those at the same time, occasionally. I can't afford crashes and nasty artifacts/underruns. :S I would most definitely like to keep my RAM (Corsair is pretty nifty), but am open to buying more (if needed). My graphics card is the real toughy, as it is pretty outdated and I will most definitely have to buy a new one. I don't want Nvidia since I loathe their support, drivers, cards, and marketing strategies. My budget is roughly $600, and I'm willing to spend up to $700, if absolutely required. I'm very frugal, and efficiency is key. I'm an engineer, you see.  Thanks a lot for any advice anyone could grant me, as you're the ones taking the time out of your day to help a fellow nerd who is extremely rusty with Hardware.

Ive got a similar set up to you (apart from the RAM):
AMD Phenom II x2 550 (unlocked 2 cores, now a quad core) - 3.2GHz 4GB RAM 9800GT Built in '09 and has been serviving when I throw A++ PC titles at it Since you are going to do heavy gaming and heavy video creating/editing, I suggest you getting 6/8 core CPU (the FX cpus by AMD) although intel cpus are far more better in terms of efficiency and performance although they do cost alot compared to AMD. Just relized now, if your going to upgrade your CPU, then your going to have to get a new mobo since the new FX cpus have the AM3+ sockets and their not going to fit into your mobo. Ive came up with a build with only the CPU, Mobo and GFX since everything essentially is up to date (considering you have a 12gigs of RAM). You may also want to upgrade your PSU to 600W/650W just to be on the safe side. CPU Mobo GFX Currently ~$665. You could easily save some more by getting the 78XX gpus. -------------------

I'll take that into consideration, thanks.  I'm definitely upgrading my PSU as the one I'm currently using was $40 and not cert'd at all. I've read somewhere that they die on you after a year and take the rest of your computer with it. I'm not really doing heavy video editing, but more like advertising virtual products and creating them and that's why I need a good CPU/GPU combo. Looking into those links now. -------------------
