From what I gather it uses anywhere between 300w and 470w. It's hard for me to find a static figure since every website seems to have a different number. I expect the 7990 to be hard pushed to beat that, neither on temps, power usage or performance. Not that I've owned a dual chip GPU before but do they all use 3 PCIe expansions? Actually the 690 is lower than 680's in SLI just as the 7990 would actually use less than 7970's in CF mode, each generation though seems to be a bit of an improvement at least with 580's in SLI consuming stupid amounts of power.

Right, but there's rumors of there being both a "7990" and a "7970 X2", which should be about as good as 2 usual 7970s. The info in the first post is mostly about the suspected 7970 X2.

	If the 7970 is meant to be as good as two 7970s in crossfire, then how good will the 7990 be? Considering that AMDs usual dual-chip GPUs are basically something between two 950s and 970s bolted together to run as one. I know AMD have slipped behind Nvidia for years now, but could this be their ace up their sleeve?

The use of core Tahiti XT means that we will see overclocked versions from third parties. Then when there's time left over, they can develop air coolers to expand the market a little. well think of it this way...air cooling works for everyone. if you are going to have water cooling, youre going to have a water block instead of a heatsink and fans. this means that if someone does not have a water cooling system, they are shit out of luck. of course, there are cards that can be purchased with a waterblock already attached, but those cost extra anyway. either way, you will end up spending more to get a water cooled card, so it doesnt really make a difference in the end. -------------------

	Pretty much the above, NVIDIA and AMD create OEM spec coolers for the mass market to put on their cards. It's up to third parties to make their own alternative coolers which they've been doing for about a decade anyway, eVGA is pretty well known for their water blocks on their classified cards and the extensive tweaking options available. As for the needing something to prop the card up, they've had the power jack for a while now I doubt it's required but once you invest in it or you review it why not put it to use. Even though it was designed for an enthusiast market most enthusiasts have no idea what the heck it is most of the time and mistake it as something new, hurts even more because we actually reviewed that too. -------------------

	I'm not gonna post links, since those sources aren't revealing any of their sources either. There's rumors going around that the 7990 might be out at the end of this month. Just like there were rumors that it was suppose to be out before the 690 and then in march and then a few weeks ago... Anyway, as the unconfirmed story goes, they might also release a 12 GB special edition, which would probably be meant for architects and such and wouldn't be optimized for gaming. So now there's rumors of: 7990 6 GB. 7990 12 GB. 7970 X2. By now there's also a 7970 6 GB edition ("Sapphire Toxic 7970 6GB GHz", or something like that). 	6GB of vram but still only a 384-bit bus? i mean, i cant complain too much, but if i had all the vram, id want it to be as speedy as possible so i could really saturate it with high resolutions and tons of AA. all celebrate the GPU wars!

	Aren't all dualchip cards like that meant to be? The GTX690 itself is 2 680s made to act as if it was one. That acftually does look a beast, with quality packaging. I don't suppose anyone has gotten a hold of one and benchmarked it yet? Interesting to see it packaged with a crossfire cable... who on earth is gonna have enough money or any need to crossfire that?

	Nope, most of those cards like the 590 were actually dual 570's due to power and heat issues so you took a performance hit. AMD operated much the same, the 5970 was dual 5850's unless vendors made their own cards with 5870 chips and used their own self appointed performance rating. The 6990 was dual 6950's from what I recall and the list goes on for tweaking with dual 460's and etc. It's a heck of a card, unfortunately it seems like few will be able to swing the cash to get one let alone two of them. -------------------

	The only* recent high-end 2 GPU cards that haven't had their performance turned down are: ASUS Ares (2 x AMD 5870). ASUS Mars (2 x GTX 285). ASUS Mars II (2 x GTX 580). ASUS Mars III (2 x GTX 680) - (not out yet). PowerColor DEVIL13 HD7990 (2 x 7970). *There's probably more, but I can't remember them.

	Bump! The ARES II (2 x 7970 with a total of 6 GB memory) will be out soon. It's going to have a combination of air and water cooling and it's going to cost about 1'500 dollars + what the store wants + transport fees = probably no less than 1'800 dollars. I'm pretty sure it's possible to get two usual 7970s and water cooling kits for them for less than that and end up with something slightly better, but what do I know? Spoiler:Video So I wonder how the other 2 x 7970 super bad-ass editions (listed in this thread) are doing in comparison.
