Adding up the power provided by the three 8-pin power connectors and the power also provided by the PCI-Express slot, we obtain a total of 525 watts of available power to feed the Devil 13 card.

This leads many of us to believe we can only be looking at a dual GPU card based on AMD’s Tahiti Radeon HD 7970 GPU.

The extra amount of power leads us to a possible overclocked configuration, when the two GPU might actually be running above the 1 GHz frequency that AMD sets in many of its chips.

Amid the wait that AMD’s HD 7990’s future to surface seems grim, PowerColor set out to come up with the Radeon HD 7970 X2 with this time details about the GPU itself as well as some proper photos of the graphics card have been teased online.
The card features PowerColor’s Vortex III cooling solution that looks something more of focused on stealth with a red and black color combination. The card is originally called the Radeon HD 7970 X2 Devil13.

The card being a dual GPU graphics card features a custom PCB with two 28 nm Tahiti GPUs running in a CrossFireX configuration. All components on the cores have been enabled and comes with 6GB of GDDR5 memory that is 3GB each across a 384 bit interface. The card comes with three 8 pin power connectors with the TDP rated at 525W.

This card will be on display on Computex in Taipei next weekend where further details are expected.

AMD has unveiled its newest flagship professional-oriented graphics card, the FirePro W9000 at the AMD Fusion Developer Summit (AFDS) 2012. This new flagship FirePro graphics card has some interesting specs, 6GB of GDDR5 memory, 4 TFLOPs single-precision and 1 TFLOPs double-precision floating-point performance, up to 264.8 million pixels/s. And as you might have guessed, it's based on the same Tahiti XT GPU used in the Radeon HD 7970.

The other product that grabbed the attention of many was the graphics card being held by Mark Papermaster, which could very well be an AMD Radeon HD 7990. As our readers can see from the images, two GPUs were present on the PCB. If the card shown is indeed an HD 7990 then AMD has once again changed its cooling design for its enthusiast dual-GPU product. Forgoing the lateral-flow design of the past they have from the looks switched it out in favor of a triple-fan design that uses three low speed 90mm fans. Another rather interesting point of note is the fact the card only uses two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. This could mean AMD will use the lower voltage Tahiti XT2 chips, which will make their debut in the new Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition we reported on earlier. That said it seems we will all have to wait and see what it was Mark Papermaster was actually holding.

Not that I've owned a dual chip GPU before but do they all use 3 PCIe expansions?

expansions? if you mean the power cables, most use two. i think this is the first one to use three. if you mean how many slots it takes up due to its size, most cards take up two.
