First Build technical difficulties

Hi all,

I recently built my first desktop with the following hardware configuration;

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 EVO
CPU: AMD FX 4100 3.6 Ghz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8MB 1600Hz
Graphics: EVGA GTX 560 1GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 7200 RPM 1TB
Drive: Sony BlueRay/DVD RW-R
Power: XION 850W Modular
Case: MSI Raptor

After everything was connected to the mother board and to the power supply, I connected the sytem to power and tried to power on. None of my case fans, cpu fan, or Graphics Card Fan started up. At first I thought there was no power running to the system but when I checked the motherboard the power LED was illuminated indicating that there was power to the motherboard. All devices that are connected to the power supply by modular cabling are not powering on, to include the BD drive, HDD, Graphics Card, and Case Fans. My motherboard flashes LED lights when there is an issue with a specific device but there are no flashing LEDs when I power on, nor do I hear any beeping noises. I am not sure if this is an issue with my modular cabling or if it is an issue with the motherboard. This is my first build so I'm learning as I go here and the videos I've watched and instructions I've read indicate that everything is hooked up correctly. I would greatly appreciate any and all advice on troubleshooting this problem.

likely the psu. could just be the 12v rail thats faulty, which explains the fans not working, but the leds do. in any case, you will have to replace the psu.

xion isnt reliable. if you cant afford top quality units, grab a rosewill unit

if the fan of the PSU doesnt engage, and youre sure everything is properly connected, its a faulty PSU.

might sound dumb, but some PSUs have a voltage selector on the back (usually small, red switch), make sure it isnt on the low setting.

When your computer is turned off the PSU fan is not spinning, but there is no broken circuit; the PSU is still "ready". If the PSU was completely dead you wouldn't be able to start your computer with the button on the front; there's still a small amount of energy being drawn from the PSU until you disconnect it or use the hard switch on the back.

Thanks all for the help, I e-mailed XION 2 days ago and still no response, that alone is cause enough for me to never purchase their products again. I'm on my way out today to buy another PSU, I'll look in to rosewill and maybe corsair.

Uggh. You could have a grounding issue. This could be a user issue if not a bad board. this IS NOT the sellers reputation.

Build the system OUTSIDE the case on the motherboard box. Add just the minimum hardware and see if it posts.

it doesnt hurt to try. mind you, if its only partially working, it does make damaged hardware the prime suspect
