But im pretty sure they'll be compatible if you pick up a 'AM3/+ socket' motherboard. Edit = Ive looked on other websites and they say that the bus interface of that gpu is 2.0 x16... -------------------

How do i know? It has a 1155 cpu socket. Something that AMD does not use. Have a look through these motherboards And whats your specs? Despite it being a mid-end rig, you might not need to upgrade certain parts that seems outdated. (E.g. a cpu with 3/4 cores is alright for gaming etc etc). -------------------

	The HIS H685FN1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB has two DVI ports (I think only one of them is dual link), a HDMI port and a Displayport. The ASUS VH226H has one each of a HDMI, DVI and D-Sub connector. So you can connect that to the graphics card with either the HDMI port or the DVI port. What is the model of your Dell monitor? If you know what type of display connections it has then you should be able to figure out how to connect it to the 6850. Gaming performance is also usually more dependent on the GPU than the CPU.

	Rosewill Capstone 550W 80Plus Gold $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182068 $5 more than the GS600 ends up being in that combo, but it's well worth it, as it's much more efficient, much quieter (I think it will be quieter under full load than the GS600 is in idle) and has higher build quality. Performance in other aspects are probably quite similar tho so it is not a bad choice, I just think the Rosewill is the better choice. Your monitor, the DELL E197FP, only has a D-Sub connector. So you will have to use a D-Sub/VGA to HDMI/DVI/DP adapter. Sometimes these come with the graphics card, but I can't find any evidence that the Gigabyte Ultra Durable VGA Series GV-R685OC-1GD comes with one.

	He's got an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, in a Dell prebuilt, so he doesn't have an Intel or an Asus motherboard.

	Yes you will have to get the new motherboard to install a new CPU. As Athlon 64s use an older socket, 939 I think it is, while most new AMD CPUs are AM3/AM3+. From what I have seen 6850s outperform 550 Tis so I think you should stick with one of those.

	you might wanna buy another 3GB of RAM since you currently have 1024MB (aka 1GB) of RAM. 1GB is not good for gaming computers nowdays. 4GB are cheap nowdays. They're like ~£40 -------------------
