LCD refresh rates

so i have the ability to create custom resolutions and refresh rates for my monitors...now i dont want to change the settings on my main monitor, but my other two monitors which arent used for gaming/videos are what im interested in tinkering around with. im wondering if i can get the refresh rate lower than 60 without any problems. i ask because it comes up with warnings of damaging the monitor. while im fairly certain this is warning is only for CRT monitors, i just want to double check.

and why would i want to lower the refresh rate? well for one, im assuming that the video card uses more power in refreshing more times per second. also, im trying to see if this can help my F@H problem which ive mentioned in other threads (though i doubt it will help).

sometimes monitors support other settings as well. besides, my monitors are pretty old, so i doubt i will find info on them.

i know thats definitely true for CRT monitors, as it is basically a very fast beam refreshing row by row, but if my understanding of LCD screens is correct, then it should update all at once.
