Time for a new forum header!

A collage of people's computers and specs sounds pretty neat. We really need to do something that's far more original than the standard "oh look, I can work photoshop and make a picture from Google Images look cool" header that plagues every other forum.

Yes, plagues.

I'm game for that, but then again, I'm not creative at all so I can't think of anything better.

This is what I had in mind for it:



That would go in place of where the comics are now.

I was talking to Gravity about it earlier and I was thinking each member could submit up to 5 pictures to be put into rotation. You could only submit a picture if you have a worklog thread in the showcases forum. It can be any picture you want (within reason of course) and the caption can be anything you want (once again only within reason). You could have it include some specs about the computer, benchmark scores or a quick fact. As long as it is not too long and isnt made up. The pictures can also be from different worklogs as well so you can post 3 pictures from one of your computers and 2 pictures from another.

I'm not going to be too strict on the content as I want it to be really original and creative. As long as the picture is one that you took of your computer and the caption is about the picture in some way.

The pictures with the captions will be put into a random rotation similar to how the comics are setup. A random one will be chosen and displayed when you visit the forum.

This will hopefully encourage more people to participate in the showcases forum too. The way I'll set it up is I'll have access to the file to I can easily add or remove pictures. If after a few months you take some updated pictures I'll gladly go through and update any captions or change any pictures that you want. As long as your not constantly bugging me to change stuff every week, I wont mind it .

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Anything you would like changed? If I see overall good feedback on this, I'll get started on it in a few days and hopefully have it going within a week or so.

Border would be nice, caus I'm really fussy about images without borders.

rounded corners, border, whatever. I just don't like solid edges for some reason

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to go about doing this, but I think the caption should be integrated with the picture more. Looks kinda boring right now. A border might help though.

It matches well with that picture because its dark and not all the pictures submitted will be dark.

• I like darker-themed forums.

• I made a lighter version and it looked horrible.

• Although our working relationship with the computers has persisted over the course of several millennia, the anatomy of a computer remains dark and mysterious. Perhaps one of these days we will be fortunate enough to understand how they work and for what purpose, but until then, I don't think you will find many willing to create good lighting, for fear of awakening something better off left alone.
