Is that 500-650 Canadian? If so, that equals to 475 to 620 USD for reference. Do you have a certain place you want to purchase from? This is what I would recommend: Processor: Either a 3ghz core 2 duo or a 2.5ghz core 2 quad. 4gb DDR2 800ATI 4850, 4870, 5750 or 5770, depending on budget Seagate 7200.12 500gb HDD. Case500gb OCZ power supply.

Hey, i don't mind buying from Newegg but yes it is CND dollars. I've decided to go with the 4870 after reading a few comparisons. It's better performer but no DX11. I don't think I'll be needing that anyway. The total price of everything including shipping and the video card is 624.64. I'm not sure if newegg adds tax at the end but that sounds reasonable. There's also rebates on the case and the video card so that would probably end up being under $600. Thank you EDIT: what about motherboards?

aww come on, its been a while since he made a build...actually, i dont recall seeing you ever suggest a build slayer. anyway there really isnt anything i see in novas build that needs improving upon. im always concerned that a 5770 is not going to have enough performance by the time DX11 games become mainstream, but i think im just being paranoid. either way, it doesnt hurt to suggest the faster 4870 as an alternative.

is it possible for this build to interchange the video card to the 4870? I'm not really worried about the DX11 but more so in performance
and to hiigara, I'm sure they'll make a new card equivalent to 4870 in performance with added DX11 capabilities

of course! they both use the same typeof slot on the motherboard. quoteand to hiigara, I'm sure they'll make a new card equivalent to 4870 in performance with added DX11 capabilities well the 5770 is the closest there is to the performance of a 4870. mind you, i never said the 4870 would run rings around a 5770. it is faster, but only by a little. significant enough for you to notice though. there is a $13 dollar difference between the cheapest cards of each model on newegg. so, you have to decide if losing a little performance and gaining DX11 capabilities is worth that money. however, if you are going to overclock your card, then the 5770 can be pushed much further than the 4870. you decide.

Well, for the games and apps you’ve mentioned you definitely not need DX11 now – it depends on what you want to do later. Given the fact that is not a “high-end/high-budget” system, I guess when you’ll want to switch to more demanding stuff, you’ll need to change the entire system anyways, so…

lol ok. suit yourself. quotechange the entire system?? i couldn't just switch the video cards? no he means that after you have done this build, it should last you long enough so that by the time you need to use something that maxes out your rig, you will be better off getting a whole new rig, as opposed to just upgrading the video card. you should be able to increase performance in every aspect by upgrading the video card, cpu, and ram, but you may need a new motherboard if a newer socket is out (and more suited to your rig), or a new power supply unit if the next video card exceeds the max output of the old psu.

the difference between a 5770 and 4870 are hardly noticable, they're usually within 5fps in games above 60fps and around 2-3 in anything under 60, or sometimes dead even. Whichever one is cheaper is what you should go with. There are very few games where there's a noticable difference.

Also why bother even suggesting the 775 socket? The cpu's are so overpriced. I was thinking budget build and the first processor that came to mind was a core 2 duo. Not sure how I completely forgot about AMD's existence . That build was a tad rushed as I was doing a few other things at the time as well. KeirTurduS, aside form DX11 support, the 4870 and 5770 are nearly identical from what I read a few weeks ago. You can get one 4870 now, and if you want upgrade to a faster 5xxx or 6xxx card later or throw another 4870 in there and crossfire them (though not sure how well dual 4870's crossfire).
