Whats with the hatred for macs? Have you even ever used one? I've had way, way more issues with running windows that I have ever had with running leopard or snow leopard on my non-apple computers.
The thing with macs is they just work. The OS rarely ever messes up. Unlike windows, which gets sluggish after a few years of use, most macs still run fine years later. Sure there arent many games for them, but not everyone plays games on computers. I've also had no trouble finding programs for it that are similar and sometimes even better than their windows counterparts.
mac's OS = very good, although i have customized free ubuntu to look like it and perform nearly the same way, sooo..... mac's hardware = shit i dont hate mac, i hate apple. mostly for their proprietary BS, especially with the iphone. tbh, the main reason i would have a computer is games, so if the computer im looking at cant game well (or at all) it's a no go on that computer. i've used a mac, but it was only for a little while on a 2 year old macbook air we got donated to our school for the rummage sale. moron thought it was broken, turns out when he sent it in to the apple store to have some minor part replaced, they unplugged the HDD and didnt plug it back in.

i'm debating buying a phenom II x4 945, since i've seen them go for as little as $99 in newegg's gorilla deals or whatever they call them. think it'd be worth the cash? or would it not be a noticeable performance increase on my POS mobo?

The internet costs money to run. Not just the actual websites, but DNS servers, all the fiber optic and copper cable, everything thats behind the internet costs money. People fix up the hardware for it, theres people who assign web addresses, maintain everything and so on ISP's actually connect to a much larger ISP which costs them money as well. ISP's actually make it easier for the simple home user to connect to the internet. They have to charge customers for it because it costs them money to run their own network and pay their employees. The internet could easily be free, but only if thousands of people who work on it dont mind working for free. Since I won a socket LGA 1156 motherboard, I figure I can use that as as the base for an upgrade. Right now I'm looking at getting either the i5 750 or the i5 760. The 750 is 2.66ghz while the 760 is $15 more for 2.8ghz. I'll most likely go with the 750 and just overclock since I've seen them hit 4.2ghz . Also looking at getting this PSU and RAM combo. Not entirely sure on the video card though. I've been looking at a 9800gtx, gtx250 (though they're pretty much the same card), a 5770 or 4870. I may end up doing some PC gaming but nothing way too major. The max I want to spend for a video card is about $180, and even then thats a bit much. $130-150 would be ideal. for GPU, look at the 5830 i posted in the deals forum. its at the top of your preferred budget, but it will last a pretty good while as far as being able to play newer games goes.

is it good actually, go to start menu. in the search bar, type in dxdiag. run that program. if a little button in dxdiag says something like run 64 bit diagnose, do it. take a screenshot and post that.

HD gma isnt meant for gaming, but for things like those games it should run pretty decently on low to medium low settings. my cousin's laptop has (imo, strange combo of hardware, but he custom ordered it) a centrino dual core, a gefore gt230m i think, it was a low 200 number gt. 8gb ram, and 2 640 gb HDD's. i honestly looked at it and thought, "WTF kind of hardware combination is this"

your recovery "disk" is actually a chunk shaved off of your other Hdd. it is used so that if your computer gets f**ked you can roll it back and fix the problem.

i dont think you can, and i wouldnt recommend it. if your computer gets destroyed by a virus, you have to use that to recover or buy a new copy of windows.
think of it like... a big "undo" button for your pc.

if/when your computer gets a uncontrollable virus, you delete a registry key that makes windows unusable, whatever, just turn on the laptop, and press F8 until you see boot options. should say things like safe mode, safe mode with networking, repair mode, etc, and i think you need repair mode.

1360x768 should be the minimum resolution of a widescreen monitor by these days. 1280x1024 for full screen. i dont think i've seen a monitor for sale in a store lately or a laptop with a lower resolution.
BTW, anyone on here use stardock's icon packager? i've been having some issues with it lately, dont know what the heck is wrong with it.

well, when you're buying a mac, you're paying a premium for their arguably better OS. when you're buying a pc, you're paying for the hardware and all the support for...hell, just about every program. as well as a much more user serviceable computer.

Anyone that can recommend some good computer headphones/earplugs/whatever? Nothing too expensive, but I'm using old ear plugs right now and the sound quality is shit and they're not loud at all. And I already deafen myself with my iPod, and all of this seems just so quiet. So some pretty damn good headphones, I guess you still looking? pm me what you want and i'll find you a great pair.

where/how do they get the hardware to review it? and does neo sanction/approve, manage, whatever, these reviews, or just post them?
