The body that deals with trade in Europe, the EU Commission, levied a total of $403 million fines on the companies involved, with Micron getting away with the smallest of the fines, because it aided the investigation the most. those involved: Micron, Samsung, Hynix, Infineon, NEC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Elpida and Nanya i wonder if that included RAM as well. i know for a fact that micron makes, or at least, used to make RAM. why, that is that brand of one of my sticks of RAM (the one found in the street) -------------------

	Should mean both sides of the memory market as Samsung / Hynix / Infineon / NEC / Hitachi / Toshiba / Elpida and Nanya all make their own sticks as well (don't know about mitsubishi actually) -------------------

	They're OEM companies, when you see house brand memory it's usually reference memory from one of these companies. -------------------

	For a second I thought this was going to be more relevant to 'today', as RAM prices are the one area where I feel the price is disproportionately high compared to the US. Also I've noticed a recent reasonable drop in prices, I'm sure they'll go up again soon tho. Anyway, I think I was checking a RAM sale a few weeks ago now and Hynix was mentioned as being one of the possible brands that would be supplied. Does seem like it takes a long time to bring justice in anti-competition cases of this scale and importance.

	Depends on the region and if anyone acts as the whistle blower on the issue. In the US they started a case in 2007 and wrapped in 2009 issuing fines against multiple companies. The EU investigation seems to have taken longer but it may have been due to the different laws and regulations there. :/ RAM prices are still screwed, last year around this time a 4GB kit was $39 the same kits are now $89-99 or more. I'm sure in other regions it probably has shot up higher as well. Unfortunately these cases only come to light when someone steps up, how is the government to know if Micron needs to charge $115 for a DDR3 kit because of chip production and shipping cost? They don't until someone inside brings the truth out. -------------------
