SATA hard drive recognized not as SATA, but as IDE.

I really underestimated the complication of replacing a motherboard.

The motherboard's BIOS not only recognizes my SATA hard drive as an IDE (for some unfathomable reason) but also the motherboard does not show any SATA slots available in the BIOS. The BIOS roughly looks like the following

IDE Master 0 - DVD Drive
IDE Slave 0
IDE Master 1
IDE Slave 0
IDE Master 2 - Hard Drive (Is actually SATA)
IDE Slave 2

And that's the end. Usually it at least shows slots of SATA devices to be placed, but it merely shows IDE. What's up? The hard drive doesn't seem to be functioning slower than usual, and to some degree is running faster, but the BIOS message warning, roughly quoted "SATA Hard Drive is IDE" (2 seconds to read a wall of text isn't enough). I've also received 2 BSODs, but that may be unrelated. The BSOD said something about a page_fault.

The mobo is Gigabyte, if that means anything.

im not a fan of the upgrade disks either. ive heard of many issues caused as a result of an upgrade instead of a proper installation. i used to think that they were just the same CD with different functions but essentially the same files.

Yes. I've done tests with 1 stick in slot 0 and havent gotten the error since, though that doesn't necessarily indicate a bad stick. I'll do more tests later.

Doing a clean install of Windows 7 solves 90% of the BSOD problem. All of the incompatible drivers were formatted. I was still getting a dxrkrnl.sys error, which was caused by not having DirectX 10 installed. I installed it and now everything SEEMS to work fine. I didn't do any stress tests, though. I'm seating the CPU now with a white silicone solution. THE AMD STOCK COOLER IS A BITCH TO LOCK.

I'll make a bootable, but its not my priority right now. I resocketed the other 3 sticks and so far no page_fault error. It seems that the page_fault error was caused by some other, probably software related trigger.

Btw, is it normal for your RAM to fluctuate in DRAM frequency? According to CPU-Z, my DRAM frequency is shooting up and down from 200 to about 400 (doesn't DDR2 800 indicate that its intended to be 800 Mhz?) with intervals of about 20 seconds to a minute. I manually set the timings for the RAM (as other owners of the same board commented saying was necessary on the website I purchased it from). I only set the X-X-X-XX XT, but there are several other values I left alone because I didn't know what to set them to.

(The fluctuation didn't occur as drastically (if at all) in previous tests on other boards with DRAM settings set to Auto)

if no performance losses are present, then no, i wouldnt think any problems would arise. the functionality still seems to be there, and if performance isnt affected, then who cares what the system thinks the drive is?
